south of france - sleeping bags or duvets question?

So, for south of france, what do we need for sleepign in tent at night?
It's sort of ardeche or inland provence, bit on the hilly side rather than full-on alps.
i looked up nightime temps and i think it said average of 17 degrees at night with lowest recorded 9 degrees. That means nothing to me at all - do i need fleece pjs, a sleeping bag with a duvet on top and a hat.. or a sheet?
On airbeds if that makes a difference.
what would you take?

Just got back from the Auvergne and we were perfectly comfortable with our summer weight duvet (though we were in a Eurocamp pre-pitched tent that was very heavy- may make a difference) We were on camp beds but I tend to sleep in the buff so with normal PJ's and nice cosy blanket over the air bed you should be fine with a duvet :)

Enjoy!

i actually think a decent sleeping bag is a LOT warmer than a duvet because you're fully enclosed. if you're on an airbed then all your body warmth just gets lost in the air directly beneath you, so even with a duvet on top you can feel really cold (been there, done that)

a good quality sleeping bag will give you more insulation and warmth.

they also have the benefit of packing up much smaller!

forgot to say... if you have sleeping bag and you're too warm you can of course unzip, or wear less!

oh, sounds like sl' bags are probably the way to go then!
Do you think we will still feel a heat loss thru airbed in hot climate?
thanks all!

no i think if it's warmish at night you'll be fine with the airbed

Probably true yesterday but I thrash around like an eel in a sleeping bag and end up with my legs tangled up and in distress. We have a king size duvet that drapes between and around us quite snugly. It probably helps that I am prone to being hot in bed (fnaar fnaar fnaar :o)
