Chair hunt - can anyone help?

I was at a campsite a few weeks ago and saw some lovely, comfy-looking chairs. Sadly they had packed up and gone while we were out for the day so I never got to ask them where they'd got them from, and have been googling ever since trying to find them. Our cheapy folding chairs are dying on us and DD has outgrown her moon chair, so I'm in the market for some nice camping chairs.

We're going to France in a few weeks and these would be perfect for langorously lazing about with a gin in hand.

They were this shape but not wooden - metal frame with a deckchairish fabric seat.

They were [homeshopping.24ace.co.uk/garden-outdoor/garden-furniture/garden-benches/3/setof2relaxerchairs/5 a bit like this]] but had arms and the seat shape was more sling-like, iyswim

The annoying thing is, I could swear I saw them on a camping website a while ago while looking for something else and now I just can't find them!

Any help anyone can provide will be gratefully received FlowersWine

My Mum had one as you describe and it was incredibly uncomfortable! You sort of sagged into it, back was all wrong, thoroughly dreadful! You could put it two ways up - one way to be more reclinery, one more upright. Both uncomfprtable. the seat (a quite high quality mesh) was too saggy an loose for the frame. Needed to be tauter.

If you find one that looks right, test it thoroughly!

Lovecat · 18/06/2012 18:30

Ooh. Ta for that, Blu - we saw the couple lying about in them looking quite relaxed so just assumed they were comfy.

Confused

Okay, revise the question - can anyone recommend a comfy chair suitable for lounging about in the Sarf of France that packs smaller than a moon chair but relies on more than 2 legs for stability?

:o

x-post - thanks Badger, just like that, but with arms.

Although Blu has put me off a bit now...

Oh, the one Badgers linked looks FAR better than the one I endured - far ore sophisticated.

I have a feeling the one I tried was a cheapy from Sainsbury's.

Caerlaverock · 18/06/2012 19:09

Oh I really want a lafuma now

Slubberdegullion · 18/06/2012 19:13

Lafuma chairs are for thems with arthritic knees.

The yoof of today are all with the two legged chairs now.

Get with the programme grandmas.

Lovecat · 18/06/2012 19:26

arthritic knees, you say?

Sounds good to me... well, I've just found 2 reviews from US websites for those transatube chairs and they sound lush.

Now, ladies, next question, can you please tell me how I can justify spending that much on camping chairs to DH (even though tis bargainous compared with other sites, thank you v. much Badger)? :o:o:o

Lovecat I reckon you should just ponder on how much he spent on his computer before telling him that the chairs are a bargain :o

Lovecat · 18/06/2012 19:36

Dammit, I always forget the computer! :o

Yes, I could have a bloody 2nd hand RV for that money!!

Watching the 'chairs' threads with interest. As proud owner of a very nearly new Cabanon Biscaya 370 (bargain) and a voluminous yeti toolbox (birthday gift), I'm now trying to work out how to cut down on absolutely everything else we pack for four weeks away in the summer, in order to still be able to get two small children into ford c-max. The old chairs we have take up considerable space,so contemplating these:
www.tauntonleisure.com/outwell-rawson-chair-summer-stripe-2012/p8318
or these:
www.lafuma.co.uk/index.php?p=products&pid=428&prodname=lafuma%20twin%20pack%20cbcx
But I'm actually almost with Slubber on the two legged 'fun' alternative, and have already seriously contemplated the four legged option, despite its whopping price tag. What price comfort (sand small packing size) though?

Lovecat · 18/06/2012 20:58

Ooh, I have something v. similar to those Lafuma picnic chairs, we got them from Tesco last year, called Festival Chairs - not half as posh, but same principle.

They were surprisingly comfy, but impossible to stand up out of if you're as ungainly as I am. And I have enough people in my family laughing at my inability to climb a stile without having them point & laugh at me turning turtle in order to get out of a chair....:)

Hmmm, the Outwell chair looks nice...

So what do we think of these?

They look suspiciously similar to the 4 legged version of Slubber's weirdy chairs...

these are the ones i am considering getting. but i really want to try them in real life

i want something i can lean my head on.

thisisyesterday · 18/06/2012 21:02

£80????

Lovecat · 18/06/2012 21:06

If that's to me, thisis, that's for 2 of them, so £40 each.:)

ohhhh yes, so it is. one day i'll start paying attention! lol

they look quite comfy... hmm

Caerlaverock · 19/06/2012 07:41

You can laugh all you want slumber, but when I am on holiday I want to relax not perform circus tricks balancing in my chair

Slubberdegullion · 19/06/2012 08:23

You need to sort the dyac on your new phone caerl. Type in Slubber a few times and don't let it correct it. There must be a manual somewhere to assist those of mature years who are trying to get the hang on this new fangled technology business. For safety make sure you are sitting in a good supportive chair before you try. Safety First and all that.

We used to have something which looked very much like this:

www.amazon.co.uk/CAMPING-PICNIC-BEACH-CHAIR-TRAVEL/dp/B0050U75GC

They were very comfortable with the head and foot rests and got many admiring looks on campsites as we lay back in them with our books and wine (pre-DD obv). They lasted well but weren't great for group camps or eating at tables so car-space issues eventually dicatated moving to a standard camping chair sadly. The best thing was the detachable foot rest which meant you didn't have to have your feet up all the time if you didn't want to and made them easier to get out of.

I would definitely recommend (though can't unfortunately tell if the Amazon ones are as good quality as ours were).

AllOverIt · 21/06/2012 16:54

We bought these and they are soooo super comfy! Thoroughly recommend them SmileSmile
