Arisaig/ardnamurchan recommendation please!

I want to go to Arisaig for a few days with the kids in the holidays but it looks like I've left it too late - I've tried Sunnyside Croft and Port na Doran and they are both fully booked for the dates I want. I have heard conflicting reports of other sites in the area - anyone been to any of the others that you could recommend?

Or, has anyone stayed at the Ardnamurchan Study Centre site at Kilchoan and if so, what's it like?

Thanks!

Cambusdarach is lovely

A big gang of us (adults and kids aged between 2-7) stayed at Ardnamurchan back in may and we all loved it. If you can tolerate a 30 mile journey along the single track road to Kilhoan, you will be richly rewarded. Really peaceful (or it was until we turned up), the kids could roam about freely, amazing atmosphere, great views accross to Mull, and otters in the sea at dusk. We took trips to Sanna Bay which is paradise, frankly, and also to Ardnamurchan lighthouse. We also took the kids on the ferry to Tobermory and had some amazing seafood at a cafe on the harbour. Brilliant.

thesoo good, that's exactly what I wanted to hear! I spent holidays in Ardnamurchan when I was wee so I know it ( and the twisty wee road to get there) quite well, but I just didn't know what the site was like. Sanna is just my most favourite place in the world I think! The main purpose of the trip is to take the DCs over to Tobermory/Balamory and the Kilchoan ferry seems the easiest/cheapest way to do it.

Caerlaverock I have heard good things about Camusdarach so I will try them if Kilchoan is booked.

The site is medium sized, and not too fancy, but very charming anyway, I think the guy that runs it has pretty much built everything himself. There are good hot showers and clean toilets/washing up areas. There were a choice of pitches, either right down the hill by the beach, or further up the hill with a view
We left the car at the ferry terminal and went on foot, which worked out pretty cheap and the kids loved it, pottered about Balamory with dd enthusiastically pointing out Edie McCreadies house etc and then came back later in the afternoon.
By the way, I left 2 brand new ice packs in the freezer by mistake, help yourself if they are still there Smile

Another vote here for Camusdarach (?spelling!) although I saw a few years ago that the current owners were selling so there may be a change of ownership now.

The beach really is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen Smile

Yep has changed hands but nothing has changed. And yes Evan mcgregor says it it the most beautiful beach in the world so it must be true

Gorten Sands is lovely, right on the beach, though we last went ten years ago! Reviews still look good.
