Mallet for putting in tent pegs (I forgot this last time)
chairs/tables
A bite cream is often useful just in case
towels and tea towels
Toiletries
washing up liquid and cloths (might be on food list)
coolbox/bag
Clothes pegs (useful for keeping washing on airer or holding other thins together!!!)

Andie20521 · 17/06/2012 15:39

Just cross referenced it with my essentials list

?Torch
?Mallet
?Water carrier - Any large bottle will do to start off with
?Washing up liquid & cloth/brush
?Tea towel
?Plastic bags- Variety of uses from rubbish to keeping wet clothes seperate!
?Towels
?Wash Bag
?Chopping board- More handy than you think!
?Cool Box ? Don't forget to freeze the blocks before hand
?Corkcrew/bottle opener
Oh and and I have a plastic storage box in which I fill at the last minute chucking bits from the kitchen to save me the bother & expense of getting once I am there- Stuff like salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard, sugar, tea bags, coffee - I soon learnt it could be an expensive trip if I have to buy these everytime.

Hope that helps!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 17/06/2012 16:44

hot water bottles can be a lifesaver.

MrsNouveauRichards · 17/06/2012 17:25

Thanks! Will add those to my list :)

Washing up liquid and brush. I nearly always forget them.

MrsNouveauRichards · 17/06/2012 17:46

I had some of these in my head list, but when it came to writing it down, all I could think of was the tent! :o

Added them to The List

I get annoyed at all the grass walked in to the tent so a dual pan and brush are essential.for me!

How old are your children? I just got back from a week in devon and forgot all in 1 coat for 4 mo and didn't have enough jumpers for 19mo

ChishAndFips · 17/06/2012 17:59

Groundsheet to sit on if ground is wet.
Chairs - you'll be surprised at how quickly you long for a seat that isn't on the ground or in the car!
Duct tape, string, elastic bands; you never know when something will need fixing.
Torches and spare batteries.
I take a dustpan and brush for sweeping out the tent though I appreciate this is a bit of a luxury!

And I assume from you having a bucket for the loo that you're not going to an actual campsite with toilets and showers? If you are then you don't need the bucket :)

FranticBanana · 17/06/2012 18:25

Cheap small inflatable paddling pool for washing the kids. Pop in shower cubicle, fill, add bubbles and throw them in. I used to use a big trug when DS was tiny but he doesn't really fit now (he's 3).

Something really quick and easy to chuck on after a shower, like a fleece and tracky bottoms, so you can then get dressed in your tent in the dry. (OK, you're going to Wales, but there might be SOME dry weather Grin )

Lighter for stove.

As many wipes as you can fit in the car.

Don't forget the Wine !

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 17/06/2012 19:04

i never bother cleaning my children, to be honest...
www.mumsnet.com/travel/packing-checklists this is a good wee resource.

MrsNouveauRichards · 17/06/2012 19:07

Got a spare tarp for whatever we may need it for, bought a dustpan and brush at the last Ikea visit ready for camping.

There is a shower block and loos etc, but it is in the farmyard possibly 2 fields away. I always need to wee once and sometimes twice in the night and my 4yr old doesn't wear nappies at night, so worried about getting her across 2 fields with a full to bursting bladder!

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 17/06/2012 19:10

i make them go to the loo first, before tooth-brushing, face-washing etc (which can take a while) and then make them squeeze out a last drop before leaving the toilet block.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 17/06/2012 19:11

oh. head-torches.

fossil97 · 17/06/2012 19:20

Wellies?
Warm jumper each
earplugs
Agree about at least three or four packets of wipes, also some Dettox wipes are handy for tables/stoves.

Pack a small plastic box (lunchbox size) with little things either for emergency repairs or that you don't want to forget - mine has things like electrical tape, cable ties, spare guy rope, string, matches and fag lighter, few plasters, a few hooks, needle and thread, a Sharpie pen. Then it always lives in your camping kit.

For the children they wear fleece pyjamas and I've put elastic around the ankles. Then when they jump up in the morning, wellies go straight on and the trouser hems don't get wet when they run about like mad things/ need that early morning loo trip.

Some sort of lightweight foam frisbee that the kids can play with and not destroy other people's tents.

addictediam · 17/06/2012 19:38

if you want a comfortable (althought this is arguable!) toilet in the night this is what my mum does!

you will need a poty, a roll of large sandwich bas with tie handles, cheep own brand sanitary towels and thoes disposable changing mats pampers do.

put a mat down, place the potty on top, place a bag in the potty (much like you would put a bag in the bin, then take 2 or 3 sanitary towels open them out and place inside.

it can be left until needed, after useing the potty (yes even you!) get hold of the tie handles tie up place out side the tent and arrange for the next person!

Blu · 17/06/2012 19:40

flip flop / croc type shoes for shower block, and also because they are easy to kick on and off as you go in and out of tent - you don't want to be treading wet mud / wet grass in the tent.

I take plastic carrier bags and one of those butchers hook thinks in my wash bag - often hooks are terrible or the benches are wet or the shower sprays everything on the hooks. I put all my stuff in a carrier, hung on a butchers hook hooked over the door. The butchers hook just lives in my wash bag now!

Mossie relellant / one of those citronella candles?

Lanterns. Those little Tiny Lights - book lights - give out loads of light and save you using lantern batteries if you are reading after the kids have gone to sleep.

Portable BBQ if you want to BBQ?

MrsNouveauRichards · 17/06/2012 20:22

Butchers hooks - genius!

The bucket loo thing, I have agreed to camping with the provision that I have a loo bucket. It will have bags in with some cat litter. End of :o

Will add more bits to list and repost. Thank you all so much!

oh, i'll tell you something else that's an essential for us in the style of the butcher's hook. you know those little plastic join-y hoop things for baby toys, that stop them falling out of the pram? very handy for hanging things inside the tent.

MrsNouveauRichards · 17/06/2012 21:11

We use those to attach DS's snacks to the buggy :o

OP posts:
Cremolafoam · 17/06/2012 21:27

Baby wipes
Wine
Hot water bottles
Large Tupperware box containing sponge washing up liquid and tea towel ( doubles as a container for all crockery and also washing up bowl.
Socks - many

Cremolafoam · 17/06/2012 21:31

Flamboyant cape for The Walk Of Shame to the loo block.
Well you may as well be the campsite entertainment

Labradorlover · 17/06/2012 21:45

Solar powered fairy lights.

I thought these were pretty rather than practical, but are fab. I have them in the living area. They come on automatically when it gets dark. Great for finding your tent and saves looking in the dark for your torch.

Labradorlover · 17/06/2012 21:48

Oh and the last 3 times I've taken my winter coat and have always worn it at some point...

MrsNouveauRichards · 17/06/2012 21:53

:o Cremola, my hair should be enough of an entertainment.

I like the idea of fairy lights, but perhaps they are more of a second trip type thing (as in my DH will fail to take me seriously if I say that fairy lights are a necessity :o )

I have got lots of glowsticks, thought the kids would like those.

Will probably take my trusty Ziploc bags too....
