Washing up wipes

Does such a thing exist?

Staying on a wild camping site soon with very little in the way of facilities (like, none!) and I was thinking about how to minimise the amount of water we would need.

I thought washing up would be an issue and wondered how others manage in this kind of set up?

Paper plates & disposable cups?

serin · 16/06/2012 20:53

In a stream?

YellowDinosaur · 16/06/2012 22:01

Good plans both!

More bothered about pans and stuff. I know there are ways round this but one of the things I love most about camping is the cooking so don't want to be restricted by something daft like not being able to wash stuff!

Could you line your pans with foil?

YellowDinosaur · 17/06/2012 00:12

I've used baby wipes before now on dishes, and then just rinsed with water? Not ideal but practical!

There's a gap in the market! Who's going to be first on Dragon's Den?

Caerlaverock · 17/06/2012 19:39

What a revolting concept. Just use stream

scrappydappydoo · 18/06/2012 18:27

Take some cheap thin sponge cloths cut them into squares. Put the squares in a plate of washing up liquid until they have absorbed said liquid. Then put them a separate plate and leave to dry.
Then you just have to dampen then - quick swish with water to rinse and hopefully clean plates.
I would copyright but nicked it from another forum Wink

Antibacterial wipes?

YellowDinosaur · 03/07/2012 07:38

Well in the end I just used a combination of baby wipes, dry kitchen roll and wet kitchen roll to get the worst of and then washed properly when home. Stream too far away really.

Liking scrappys idea for next time though!

I think the answer was to take all the washing up on the 10 min walk to the tap! (there was a tap on site, yes?)
Or rather send someone else with all the washing up to the tap.

Yes there was blu. I'll send the boys next time. That should give me some peace and quiet :o

I hope suggestions for using the stream were made in jest... I can just imagine how grim camping will become if we were all to wash our rank, greasy dishes in streams our kids then play in.... charming! What's that proverb about taking nothing but photos, leaving nothing but footprints.... camping, for me, embodies all that is glorious about enjoying nature.
