Granted, I will be sleeping in a (very) old camper van, not on the floor so it shouldn't be too awful. And it'll probably only be for weekends. But still, I'll be at least 6 months pg - will it be awful?
We camped last year and it was fine but just don't know if I could take it this year. I do have some nice Cath Kidston camping accessories to cheer me up though .
Should I stick to my guns and persuade him that a hotel with a family room would be better and do a city break instead?

I did a weekend in a tent when 14 weeks pregnant - and still suffering badly from morning sickness.

Everything was okay until the last morning at 4 am when my husband (and probably the rest of the campsite) was woken up by me shouting "bag, bag!!"

Peeing was a hassle as I was up every 2 hours and couldn't face the trek to the toilet block. So what I did was cut the top of a large volvic bottle and peeded into that at night time and flushed it down the loo in the morning - I know it sounds a bit gross (I did pick up this tip at Glastonbury!) but it was a total lifesaver..

I did it and loved it

TicTacsMum · 23/02/2006 18:26

Did it (camped, that is) at 21 weeks in France and had a great time. No hassle at all, although friends, colleagues and family all though it was a bit weird!

Enif · 23/02/2006 18:36

god I cant imagine anything worse personally

Dh was horrified when I suggested not camping this year. Completely didn't get my reservations. But then it's easy for him. Really not sure what to do. I know I couldn't take a week. Maybe I'll try just a weekend somewhere close to home...

i went to glastonbury when pg, was very grim. left early.

tie a bag of rocks to his belly and make him sleep on the floor for 2 nights, maybe he will get a better idea of what its like to camp when pg then, and tell him he has to wear the bag of rocks the whole time if you go

I did one night in a camper when pregnant and that was enough. It is not the greatest of fun.

Stayed in a Viking village for a week when about 4 mnths pg. Slept in a sleeping bag on a wooden platform with sheep skins underneath. It was fine and didnt feel uncomfortable at all.

Did opt out of camping when 6 mths tho cos by then it was Oct and a tad chilly and cos it would have been up to dp to cart all the gear and strong tho he is, that would have been a bit much. Mind you the bed in the hotel wasnt much comfier tbh.

Skribble · 24/02/2006 21:55

I wouldn't have fitted through a camper van door at 6 mths .

Say you will comprimise, he can stay in the camper van you will stay in a nearby B&B but you will pop over in the afternoon for a cuppa. Better still book a Spa but tell him its a dodgy little B&B with nylon sheets and Basil Fawlty for a manager. He will never know as he will be happily emptying his chemical toilet and frying his own breakfast .

spidermama · 24/02/2006 22:12

Just say 'NO' cupcakes.
My dh forced me to camp at The Big Chill whilst pg one year. In the end I insisted we go to a hotel. I'll never forget the mortification of packing up the tent with the kids leaping around shouting, 'Will the hotel have a telly mummy' and the hardcore festy types shooting disapproving glances at us.

tessasmum · 24/02/2006 22:19

I'd say go for it. I camped in the UK last September whilst 8 months pregnant - slept better that week than I had for prevoius 3 months and better than I have since

ShaysMummy · 24/02/2006 22:22

i went away in our caravan when iwas 5 months pregnant.
sil went away camping with only days to go till d-day!
Only die hard campers can manage it, real campers!!

rummum · 24/02/2006 22:26

I have just googledCath Kidston camping accessories... Very nice, very expensive

Frizbetheexpansionset · 24/02/2006 22:38

If your not usually a camper then I wouldn't bother.....I've done glasto when preggers and was fine, and camped loads thru summer, upto when I was 7mths preggers with dd, but its not for everyone, if your normally reserved about camping, being pregnant is probably not the best time to start doing it!
