Which Cobb set do I need?

I fancy a Cobb, but I'm bewildered by the different packages on the website. The Cobb 'kitchen in a box' seems to contain everything but is £196! The basic one without all the accessories is £95. So which bits do I need and which not? Neither of us are what you would call keen cooks but when we are camping we live on burnt sausages which can get a bit boring. I told DH that we could roast a chicken in it and he pointed out that we hardly ever roast a chicken in our kitchen. I have sold him the Cobb by telling him we can cook everything with just a handful of briquettes, so I just need to decide which one to get.

I'd just start with the basic thing. It should come with everything you need to cook.

We have the roasting rack too, and might get the frying pan in time.

The cobblestones are great, so I'd recommend getting a box of those too.

Thank you! I am shocked by the cost of the accessories individually but if I don't need them it is all well and good.

I can say it is all built to last, we had a lot of value from ours.

When I got mine they had some sort of offer on, I remember compiling a spreadsheet to work it all out but a bundle was the best one. Have to say it's useful to have a variety of cooking bits. We also have used the frying wok, plate and less successfully so the griddle over a normal gas camping hob too.

Thanks. I think I should probably watch the website for a while to see if any offers come up. I don't need it imminently so I can afford to hang on for a bit.

I got the basic set plus roasting track initially then bought the fry dish and then the frying pan.

Roasting rack essential for roasting stuff plus cooking beer bread without burning the bottom. Fry dish great for slow cooking stews and stuff which I think the Cobb really excels at. Frying pan can be used to make pizza.

I haven't got the griddle pan as I am not sure what that brings to the party that the basic cooking surface doesn't but prepared to be challenged on that!

Thank you YD, that is a useful point about the griddle pan. I am finding it so hard to make decisions without being able to go to a shop and have a look at it. Can I put the whole thing in the dishwasher or are there bits that can't go it. NB I am not taking the dishwasher camping!

You can put it in the dishwasher. You wouldn't get much else in though.

I take my dishwasher camping - it's called dh :o

Oh and if you've got a Lakeland near you they sell it if you want to see it in the flesh - they don't have the griddle pan but have all the other bits I think :)

I use the fry dish mostly (for heating up ready meals too), then the fry pan and least of all the griddle. I noticed yesterday there was a set for about @£160 which excluded the griddle which might be the best starter? I think Lakeland only stock the basic set, not all the add ons.

YellowDinosaur · 14/06/2012 20:58

Lakeland stock the frying pan and the frying dish as that is where I got mine. Or they used to at least...

Anypointinseeingdoc · 15/06/2012 13:01

There is a Lakeland about an hour away so I could pop over there and have a look at one. Of course I would have to look in other shops too, to make it worthwhile...
