Campsite recommendations in New Forest for beginner

Can anyone recommend any nice campsites in the New Forest for a newbie camper? It will be me, DD aged 3 and my best friend. DD is into all things nature, flowers, trees, animals etc. I want a site with decent loos, allows BBQs, and is in walking distance of a pub or other place that provides food. I've been looking at some of the sites that seem to be owned by the Forestry Commission, which look nice. Any other recommendations? Anything else I should be looking for in a campsite?

Hollands wood is nice but big and quite crowded. Good location. You can walk to brockenhurst from there but prob a good ten min walk. Other site which may suit is red shoot, I've not stayed before but read good things. Think it's in the grounds of a pub.

Grounds of a pub sounds ideal :)

We had hellish time there last year. They over crowded the site so no room apart from the large amount on concrete, to play on. Did nothing about the noises neighbours who projected movies onto windbreakers till 12am or the ones that kicked kids out at 5am.
The site was too busy and noisy for our family.

sounds awful Lisa!!! I would be going home early.. can't cope with that.

Hollands Wood - Forest Holidays place near Brockenhurst. Lovely site, clean facilities, and opens straight onto the Forest. Haven't been there in high summer though, and suspect it might get quite busy.

It's in walking distance of a hotel (and Brock itself is less than a mile), but the local takeaway delivers to the site which is a bonus.

I like Roundhill which is also a Forest Holidays campsite and is near Brockenhurst. Very large but doesn't feel that busy.

I can also recommend this place which we spent the Jubilee weekend at and is just south of the New Forest near Lymington:

It looks really naff but the camping bit is basically 3 fields and you camp anywhere. It is right on the edge of the nature reserve and has fantastic views across to the Isle of Wight. We went for walks in the evening to 2 different pubs through the nature reserve and also along the sea wall. You can also walk to Hurst Castle (although we didn't have time).

As for the toilets and showers, 8 toilets and 8 showers per male/female and even though it was full and bank holiday weekend I only waiting 1 minute for a shower to come free.

The owner allows camp fires and sells logs. There is a small playground as well.

We were really impressed with this place and will definitely go back.
