Outwell Fusion 300 as second tent - anyone got one?

Our main tent is the Outwell Bear Lake which takes years to put up -lovely sturdy but a heifer of a tent so we use it for our annual weekly trip where we stay in one place. We need a one/two nighter that would also do for longer if we were moving about a lot, say a mini road trip.

DH is very taken with the idea of the Outwell Fusion 300 - one of these pop out jobbies. Looks fair enough and comes in a lovely red but I thought I would ask the wisdom of the MN camping collective.

a second tent? I guess it depends on what you want to use it for. It kind a looks like something you would take to a festival perhaps.

For me personally, I couldnt bear to crawl into my tent, has to be a walk in, or nothing Grin

We have the Outwell Vermont XLP as our first main tent, but we have the Outwell Oakland XL as our second (2nd hand) tent. Im now a bit miffed, because I just found the Outwell Salinas L is an incy wincy bit bigger than the Oakland, by about a foot, and that makes a lot of difference.

Ah well... grateful for what I have.

Why not take a browse on the UK Campsite, see if anything else takes your fancy there.

Else, there was another lady posting something for the Quencha... something or other, a pop up tent. I think they are from Decathlon?? Hang on... I'll take a google for you!

here ya go Quechua pop up approx. £240

travailtotravel · 08/06/2012 20:22

Thanks Wolf, I love our big Outwell Bear Lake whatever it is (enormous!!) but it is just too enormous to put up for one or two nights.

Hence the need for a second tent.

did you nosey at the other links above I gave you for the outwells? do you like tunnel tents, or domes?

If you like the one you showed us, go for it. Especially if it meets your needs Smile

Wolfgirl · 08/06/2012 20:27

did you see ? might be useful for you Smile

travailtotravel · 08/06/2012 20:29

Yes, I did look. The other ones you showed are still large.

But I did just realise completely that I didn't mention we don't need a large family tent, this is so DH and I can escape Wink.

Oooh, to pitch a tent by throwing it out of the bag - how much fun could you have with that !!!

We just bought the quechua 4.2 xl for our weekend tent. There are 4 of us and we have a Kampa Filey 6 which I adore but it puts us off weekend trips because of the time it takes to pitch.

Not sure about the Quechua yet, the space is good and it pops up but it's nowhere near as much space as we are used to.

The ease of pitching is the point hough and for weekends it should be fine.

Ineedalife · 08/06/2012 22:29

How many of you will be sleeping in it travail?

I have an outwell 3 man pop up, not the fusion but the jersey m. It is a great little tent with plenty of room for me and Dd3 and a bag or 2.

I also have a quechua base secondes 4.1 which sleeps 3 on airbeds but I don't think you could get 4 in it. It has a great living area and we can add a porch for extra space.

Pop ups are definitely the way to go for short breaks or travelling around. I for one am converted.

happy shoppingSmile

This is just for DH and I. No-one else, so sounds from Ineedalife that it might suit ... we're off to have a look at some today. I guess I am worried that DH just saw it and said 'yes, that's it'... it might be but think we need to look!

Doyouthinktheysaurus my dh saw it this morning and seems pretty sold. I am just working through when we would use it, as for me... I glamp and not scump Wink

So, need to think it through practically. Ablutions are a must for me, as is a morning cup o tea.

Somewhere for wet clothes, wellies etc.

DH is of the mind that he would like to just get up n go sometimes, and our current tents are way too timely to pitch.

Also, where would be the cheapest 4.2 xl - anyone know?

speak soon xx

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 09/06/2012 12:28

We just put it up in the garden wolfgirl, it was amazing! Once the groundsheet was down, 5 minutes and it was up and in place! It didn't come down quite as easily but after I'd watched the video for the twentieth fifth time we got it and stillit only took about fifteen minutes of trial and error.

The space is pretty good for a pop up tent but we will have to downsize our stuff. That's kind of the point though, less stuff, easier tent = nice relaxing weekend rather than massive stress of huge tent.

It's an awful lot smaller than we are used to as well but it currently takes us an hour and a half start to finish to get the tent and beds all set up. On a Friday evening that's no fun and Sunday seems to come round all too quicklyConfused

I plan to take the inner bit of the Kampa Khazi and use that for my night time wee. Will just have to keep it behind the tent in the daytime I guess. it's only me and dh that need the loo at night, the boys can manageGrin

I think it will work for us for 2 nights perfectly. The pack size is so much smaller than we are used to, packing the car will be a breeze and we will only go if the forecast is good so we will be sat outside rather than trying to squeeze us all in the tent!

As far as I'm aware they are only sold through Decathlon. Or maybe eBay.

Wolfgirl · 09/06/2012 13:57

doyouthinkgtheysaurus is yours the same as this....

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 09/06/2012 14:23

No, I don't think that's the pop up one.

This is ours.....swoon

It's a thing of loveliness. Just hope it wasn't beginners luck getting it foldedGrin

YellowDinosaur · 14/06/2012 23:54

We have the Outwell fusion 400. It's fab. Haven't actually gone away in it yet but it pitches in minutes, is easy to fold with a bit of practice and is surprisingly spacious. I bought it to go away on my own with the boys but think at a squeeze we'd fit in with dh to.

The decathlon ones do look fab though but I wanted 1 bedroom and also a sig
