Is the 55L Icey Tek HUUUGE?

Am torn between the 40 and the 55L. Currently have a standard size coolbox which is pretty small anyway, and am fed up with keeping veg, fruit, bread etc in insulated bags under the trailer in a futile attempt to preserve them a bit longer. Presumably if I had a massive icey tek I could keep it all in there - am thinking, meat, milk etc at the bottom where it's coldest, then other stuff nearer the top?

Any advice, oh wise icey tek owners?

It must be because we have the 40L and that is huge!

We took it for 2 weeks last year and it was plenty big enough. Just used it for 4 nights for the 4 of us, no problem. That included cans of drink and 3 bottles of wine.

You may need a forklift to move a full 55l box!

I'm choosing between a 40L and a 25L.

As we are happy to stock up every couple of days I'm thinking the 25L might be the one for us.

Or the 34L Coleman

choices choices!

Thanks doyouthinkysaurus. I hadn't thought of the weight issue Grin

There are 5 of us, and we tend not to shop very often when camping, hence wanting maximum space - but not so that we can't lift it!

threadwatcher it's a tricky choice isn't it?

Yes indeed!
Especially as getting the 'wrong' one would be an expensive mistake.

With a family of 5 and not being keen on leaving the site for supplies I would go for the 55L (Im just guessing)

ThreadWatcher · 05/06/2012 18:31

Also we are veggie (so no bacon, sausages etc) and not alcohol drinkers either so we need a lot less space for cold stuff.

Tomjoules · 05/06/2012 19:15

We are veggie and we have the 25l. I heart it. We couldnt fit a 40l in the car with all the other paraphernalia.

tyaca · 05/06/2012 19:16

remember that it works less well the emptier it is. we got the 40l and it was fine for a 4 night stay but when we went away for a w/e it was half empty and stuff didn't stay as cold.

ThreadWatcher · 05/06/2012 19:59

tyaca - so if we top up with food every other day the 25L is the better option.

That is a very good point!

We have the 56L Iceytek longbox. Love it. Don't find it too massive or to heavy whilst full.x

fatsatsuma · 05/06/2012 21:46

Aha! I thought there must be someone, somewhere who owned one Grin

LadyHarriet could you tell me a bit more about how you use yours?

We have the 56l longbox too, in a lovely shade of orange! I really like it - can have large bottles of milk and wine in it standing up, which is nice. Not pop bottles though, so you have to have them lying down.

I put in as many things frozen as possible and we do have some cool blocks, but I think we need the bigger ones as it was definitely the frozen things keeping everything cold.

It is quite heavy when full, but my OH can lift it by himself and it there are two of you you will definitely be fine. Of course it depends on what you have in there!

fatsatsuma · 06/06/2012 11:11

muchostinky thanks. Why did you go for the long box as opposed to cube? The long box is more ££ so wondering what the advantage is.

muchostinky · 06/06/2012 22:57

My OH decided on the longbox to fit in the car better, not sure if it really worked though as the car was still ram packed!

So, no obvious or sensible reason I am afraid.

Hth

fatsatsuma · 06/06/2012 23:06

I reckon the car is ALWAYS ram packed when going camping, regardless of size of coolbox Grin
Is it easier to find things in the long box ie not so much rummaging for things buried at the bottom?

OP posts:
fatsatsuma · 08/06/2012 20:07

Shameless bump!

muchostinky · 08/06/2012 20:24

Yeah, not so deep so better for lack of rummaging I guess! :o
