We are pretty new to camping. We went to Riverdart in Exmouth beginning of rain (it was a akin to a bad monsoon spell at Glastonbury... but still, we survived), and their facilities are amazing. We went on a special weekend deal and had electric hook up.

We are off to Newgale camping in Pembrokeshire tomorrow night, and they are charging £7 pppn adults, and £3 for kids (I think); but they have limited facilities. 50p for a 5 min shower, and a toilet block.

Im wondering what one can expect as 'typical', or is there no such thing... i.e all sites vary wildly?

TIA - look forward to hearing your experiences.

I think all sites vary wildy IME.

Last year we paid £22 a night for a family tent and car. This included showers though.
We have also paid £6 a night (only charged for adults) but all we got for that was one toilet on the site.

Look on the campsite websites for info.

Last weekend my friends with 3 kids ended up paying £35 per family per night, in ONE tent - £10 per adult, £5 per child. Free showers (but only occasionally hot).

I think they vary wildly too. I also think what they include and what is extra varies a lot. We've found a few that charge based on the size of tent, others that charge by number of occupants, some include showers, others are extra, etc.

We don't do EHU so that often saves a few £ per night. I think there's a few review sites that help give an idea whether a site is good value but you have to bear in mind what is important for you.

We go to sites that charge per tent, with maybe a pound or two for each DC rather than a per person charge as there are five of us, and it works out much cheaper usually. For around £80-100 for three nights I would expect a large pitch and the car right next to the tent, a nice heated, well lit, toilet block with free showers and ample hot water, washing up facilities, and preferably a washing and drying facility. And somewhere for the DCs to play, preferably with a slide and some swings or a climbing frame, rather than just a field.
