Hello!

Ok....we have the tent, air beds, sleeping bags etc etc and we were planning to go camping tonight and Saturday night as Ds want to wake up in a tent on his birthday (?!) but looking at the weather its going to go down to 3 degrees tonight/Saturday night.

Do you think this is too cold for camping? This is our first camp out with the kids (4dc, 1yr-10yrs) in the tent and i really want it to be a success (and not put us off for life!)

Thanks

Well it is pretty chilly but with the right bedding and thermal clothes on you should be fine.

Top tips
Don't go to bed cold. Get dc dressed into fleecy pjs early on in the evening and then put clothes back on the top. Warm socks, hats, and hot water bottles to warm the sleeping bags up before you get into them.

Check the thermal rating of your sleeping bags. Is their comfort range within the temp it is predicted to drop to?

If you are on airbeds insulate yourselves between the bed (a pocket of cold 3deg air) and your sleeping bags.

Can you take extra fleece blankets and or duvets to go over the top of the sleeping bags should the dc wake up in the night cold?

Ok-Checked sleeping bags and they are all ok Grin

Have lots of fleece/wool blankets we could take (trying to convince myself its going to be lovely and cosy!

Thanks for the top tips-extreme novice here.........

Smile I love love love that feeling of waking up in the tent knowing it is properly cold just outside the sleeping bag but inside you are totally warm and snug. You get the best cold side of the pillow as well.

Sure it will be fine. Most important thing imo is not to go to bed cold. I made that mistake a couple of weekends ago on a two night camp. First night did everything by the book and was fine, second night started drinking gin in a tins at lunch time had a more laissez-faire attitude to the whole thing and consequently went to bed cold with two blocks of ice for feet.

Airbeds get really cold, make sure you put a blanket on top of the airbed.

Slubberdegullion, that does sound good....but what happens when you have to get our of your bag Grin

You do it fast Grin

threeandcounting that is my worry. I have my own internal heat system and we always take our quilt and pillows so whatever the temperature outside I am toasty- as mentioned above this is great :o
If I was cold already then it may be easier to get up, I on the other hand hang it out until I am in grave peril of either contracting a bladder infection or my bladder just bursting under the pressure- not a pretty image :o

Well....we did go and it was great!

Great tips about lots of extra blankets/fleeces/not getting cold and insulating the air beds!

Having another night out tonight-thanks for all of the good advice Grin
