Off to Wychwood with DS (nearly 4 and big) and DD (10mo). V.v.v. excited! But need a decent sleeping bag for DS - thinking of this or should I think of anything else?

Looks fine. We used junior mummy shapes for our dc. Dd quite happy but ds doesn't like being so constricted so he would prefer the pod shape.

Hope you have a good time

Buy the best adult sleeping bag you can afford, and then tie around the bottom with string so that DS doesn't slip to far down. He will be snug and warm since most adult sleeping bags are better quality then ones aimed at children, and he will have a good sleeping bag for many years to come. Both my husband and I have the same sleeping bags our parents bought us as children! If you want to make it extra cosy, get (or make) a fleece sleeping bag liner, and your DS will be in for a great night's sleep.

Be careful of the really cheap ones with nylon outers, they get damp inside with condensation.

I bought the Gelert Pioneer Convertible for DS when he was 3 and he was very warm and happy in it. It extends longer when they grow, we used it zipped to the smaller length as he is short :)
Link above has good reviews, and you can actually buy it here as amazon seem to be out of stock.

Thanks for the recommendations and tips. Much appreciated.

metbird that's a great idea. I was keen on a 3-season as although we're allegedly not in the frozen north, we're going camping in a couple of weeks and it's been blardy freezing. And getting a 3-season junior bag is a bit tricky/expensive. If I'm going to spend the money, the idea of it lasting him through cubs/scouts (and maybe even beyond) is very appealing.
