coping with bedwetting in a tent

Ds 2.5 has been potty training since begining easter holidays. He is dry in the day with maybe one accident a fortnight, and dry 3/4 nights, when he is wet at night it is only once. He's doing really well so don't want to go back to nappies, and at home it's not a problem with waterproof sheet, spare pjs etc. We are planning to go camping for the half term week, wondering whether anyone has any tips/ experience.

We have only been camping a handful of times, but first went when dc4 was nearly 3. We had the same issue. She had been in washable nappies, so we bought some disposable pull ups. She thought they were extra big pants! Most nights they were dry, but saved the sleeping bag when they were wet. It didn't make any difference when we got home - went back to pants in bed with no problem.

We've had this problem with one of our dc. I know its not right but we opted to put a pull up at night. We explained that it was just as a precaution whilst we were camping.

It wasnt possible for us to take spare sleeping bags and sheets because we just dont have the space.

At home its easy to use bed mats but in a sleeping bag it would just end up in a ball. We havent found that its made any difference ie, our dd doesnt think its ok to wee in the night when she has one on, most nights she's still dry but on the odd occassion she has wee'd in them.

That's reassuring, not sure how much he will understand. The reason we went cold turkey at night was that he was getting cconfused and weeing when we swoped from nappy to pants each morning, but that was a month ago, so it might have changed. He has been a bit unreliable so don't want to go back, but as you say can't be doing soggy bedding changes in a tent at 2 am!

Must admit we explained we were popping a pull up on my little one just for camping, there was nicest we could cope with the risk of a
Per soaked sleeping bag, it didn't cause any problems she understood it was only for camping.

pee I meant !

Pull ups - we just call them camping pants.

loubielou31 · 16/05/2012 23:12

I was going to say get pull ups and call them camping pants too. DD1 who is four and completely dry for at least a year had one wee in bed last summer and it was a pain having to wash and dry the sleeping bag and bedding and the mattress. We were staying on a site with laundry facilities but I think it cost us about a tenner for the washer and dryer and it still had to go on the line to fully air.
This year they are both going to have pampers bed mats under their sheets to protect the camp beds. (the sheet is to keep the mat in place mainly) DD2 same age as yours is still in "bedtime pants" but I've noticed that it has been very full after a night in the camper and has leaked. It was the same last year. don't know if it's because it's so much colder than home and so they don't fall into such a deep sleep but it again creates extra washing.

Loubie, I think its possible that they wake in the night needing a wee but because its cold outside of their sleeping bag they think they'll get up in a minute, but then they drop off again and thats when the accidents happen.

marmiteandhoney · 17/05/2012 21:43

We've always done nappies at night for the summer after they're normally dry. After a rather soggy camping trip one time. I think Pinkandred may have a good point there.
