If you have a 10 caravan holiday

Do you stay in one place or move about?

I have found a lovely site in Oban. Great reviews but we only intended being in the area for 4 nights before heading to avid more but the sites there just seem ok. I am wondering for our first caravan holiday if we should just stay put and drive a bit further on the days we wanted to see things closer to our second site?

I'm assuming a 10 night holiday? Grin although I do like the image of ten caravans fastened together all pulled by camels in true caravan style Grin

Do you have to book ahead? i don't know how complicated it is to set a van up and then move but plenty of people do - they are tourers I guess. I'd be tempted to book the intital site and then see how it goes. Don't rely completely on reviews.

Oh iPad. Yes 10 night holiday. First caravan holiday and it was supposed to say Aviemore!

stay here on your way to Aviemore... no need to book unless you want a hook up Caolasnacon tis pure bliss on the lochside of Loch Leven, about 40 minute drive from Oban, near Glencoe.

It's my favourite place in the whole wide world so don't tell anyone else about it ok.....

Which campsites in Oban and Aviemore? We tried our caravan out last summer at Glenmore (the Forestry Commission site nr Aviemore). We have stayed there lots of times before with various tents and camper vans. We did book in advance and it was just as well because when we arrived they had a notice up saying they were fully booked!

Glemore seems to have a lot of drainge problems according to reviews so we decided on either Rothiemarchus or the one at Grantown-on-Spey. GOS will keep DH happy as they have super pitches where you get Sky so he can keep up with his motorsport!

In Oban I found North Ledaig which seems to have good reviews but booking is always recommended.

We talked about it yesterday. DH would like to move so we are doing 6 days in each location. Will have a look at your link Kbear.

I fancied North Ledaig the last time we went to Oban, but unfortunately they don't take tents, which is what we had at the time, so we had a week at Roseview which is on the outskirts of Oban itself.

I've never noticed Glenmore to be particularly boggy. The pitches in the woods are really nice, but we didn't manage any TV reception there last August! I'm interested to hear what you think of Rothiemurchus/Grantown if you go there.

When we had a camper van we used to tour, rarely staying anywhere for more than 2 nights, but with a big tent or a caravan and awning it is a real hassle to keep moving. We are hoping to do a 2-site holiday in early July and I am still trying to find nice sites in areas where I want to see/do a number of things. Since our school holidays are particularly early this year I am thinking about the North of England, but keep changing what sort of site I am looking for....

Rothiemurchus is lovely but gets booked up quickly, there is also Highridge on the outskirts of Aviemore where the facilities are good and the toilets are immaculate.
