It used to be Warcombe Farm in Woolacoombe. Still a lovely site but the prices now are crazy. H and I used to pay £7.00 a night but for peak times now they charge £28 with extra for children ect. Sad

fuckbucket · 09/05/2012 08:04

Warcombe got into Cool Camping didn't it?

Himalaya · 09/05/2012 08:10

Riverside Lakes, new forest

issyocean · 09/05/2012 08:58

fuckbucket It used to be cool now it's just bloody expensive!

www.nationaltrust.org.uk/holidays/camping/camping-in-the-lake-district/low-wray/

This is our favourite uk campsite. We got a pitch right by the lake which has amazing views.

usualsuspect · 09/05/2012 19:13

Thanks will check them out

My fave is Outer Bounds in Mid-Wales. Extremely small and unpretentious and the owner is an original sixties, hippy downsizer.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 09/05/2012 19:16

Haven't been to that many but we loved the camping and caravanning club site at Sandringham. Our spot was quite secluded, we saw bats flying outside our tent and I could run from there through Sandringham Great Park....was lovely.

There is a little site close to us which is lovely too. Washington camping and caravanning park near Worthing. Quite pricey but at the foot of the South Downs and with a stream running along the back. It's really nice.

MrsPnut · 09/05/2012 19:19

I am dying to go to www.howstean.co.uk/camping here, we are going to attempt a few days during the summer holidays.

usualsuspect · 09/05/2012 20:07

Some of these sound lovely , I would fit right in at the hippy welsh one Grin

HZ: thanks for the review of Beeches. We're down on the other side of the Severn so it would be great to cross over and stay for a long weekend.

One of our favourites, just 20 minutes up the road from us is Thistledown which I'm sure you'd love too as it's on similar lines to Beeches.

My boys disappear into the woods for hours at a time or can be found feeding the kune kune pigs and goats.

Blu · 29/05/2012 10:20

I have ended my love affair with Forge Wood, I think.

It's still a fantastic site for the woods and ambience (crowded though, because naturally everyone wants ot be in the woods or right on the edge of the field - the tents in the Barn field were as close together as on any conventional site. The investment in facilities and management needs to keep pace with the expansion of customers. The track was almost impassable and the secondary toilets in the bottom field are extremely unreliable and were out of action from Saturday morning onwards. They are looking to solve this, but it won't be a speedy process.

hillbilly · 29/05/2012 13:08

Oh Blu - what a shame - it's been our favourite too since we first went 2 yeas ago. Thanks for posting about it though.

MummyPigsFatTummy · 29/05/2012 14:28

So sorry to hear that Blu. We went to Forgewood at Easter for the first time and loved it (but there again not too many people were camping as it was cold and quite wet). We have booked to go again with a big group in July to whom we have raved about it - bit worried now as to what we will find....

I think my favourite campsite so far is Llanthony in Wales. Although there are virtually no facilities - a standpipe and some public toilets in the next door car park - a summer evening spent sitting with a drink amongst the ruins of the abbey was one I won't forget for a long time.

Blu · 29/05/2012 22:32

Oh, Forgewood remains a lovely site, but bear in mind that the toilets in the lower field will not be on working order unless they have managed to install some quite hefty upgrades in some way. And choose your pitch accordingly.

sundew · 29/05/2012 22:37

We love the camping & caravanning site in West Runton (near Cromer in Norfolk) and on the opposite side of the country Caervai Bay campsite near St Davids in Pembrokeshire which has the most amazing views.

hz · 30/05/2012 15:11

Thanks Salome, we went to Thistledown a few weeks ago, I have out a review of it on my blog too. It really was excellent! Its only 50mins from us too. Can't wait to go back.

SalomeD · 30/05/2012 16:53

Aha Hz - only caught sight of your recent entries - now I've paged down there are plenty I want to try this summer!

My boys love Thistledown as they can run feral with the loads of other children - we lost the youngest (7) last summer for a couple of hours and found him round a campfire with a load of women celebrating someone's 40th birthday (he didn't want to leave the next day as he had been invited to the cake cutting)

Each time we go there are improvements: hot water, more compost toilets/showers, washing up facilities.

Is the farm shop up and running now?

hz · 30/05/2012 18:20

No farm shop yet, just big half finished structure unfortunately. Hoping to go to Cloud Farm this weekend as foolishly I haven't booked anywhere. Cloud Farm is a favourite anyway but you can't book and it can get a bit busy!

hz · 04/06/2012 18:34

Blimey, just got told off for leaving link to my blog. Thought I was just giving some useful info but sorry if I've broken the rules!

WyrdMother · 04/06/2012 18:44

Woodhill Park Near Cromer in Norfolk We've always managed to get in last minute though sometimes we've had to do Mon-Fri because the weekends are fully booked.

I can't find a website for it but there is a Campsite at Back of Keppoch, Arisaig, Highlands that has it's own stretch of beach and views over to Skye, Rhum.
