Recommendations for campsites in Suffolk pls

Originally posted in chat, as was unaware there was a camping topic! Apologies as I've not done a search yet but I will after posting this but we're trying to find a good campsite in Suffolk basically and wondered if anyone has any recommendations. There's me, my DH and two DDs ( 4 and 2 ) and 2 dogs. My DH is after the 'real' camping experience, ie a field would do him. I'd like a nice clean shower and toilet at least within this field! Neither of us particularly want to go somewhere that has an onsite restaurant/bar/entertainment type thing but it would be great to find somewhere that maybe had a climbing frame or similar. That's not a must however.
So not a huge list, but would rather have some recommendations rather than picking one at random from google TIA

St Margaret's campsite in Shottisham is quite nice. Only one shower for each sex but clean and hot. Sorry can't do link from iPhone.

Heathland Beach is nice too - very close to a gorgeous beach (steep stairs down mind), a safari park and only a short drive from the fabulously lovely Southwold www.heathlandbeach.co.uk/index.asp Only one dog allowed at peak times though.

bobkate · 02/05/2012 23:13

Thanks MrsKwazii - that one is quite expensive though! I suppose due to all the facilities, etc. Probably a bit too much for us....and we have 2 dogs! Thaks for posting though Smile

Have a look on this thread where there are recommendations fro Thetford Forest camping (close to Suffolk borders - ish), Clippesby (Norflk - broads area) and Forest camping in Woodbridge - suffolk.

We went here, near Bury St Edmunds, it was fine, looks out over fields, is less regimented than a Caravan Club site, say, no onsite entertainment, but not as free'n'wild as some of the woodland sites. No particular bad points, nothing especially exciting.

Have you tried doing a search on ukcampsite? That may narrow it down and you can read the reviews too.
We are going to The Secret Garden in Wisbech this summer, not sure how far away that is mind from where you are planning! It sounds really good and the owner was lovely when I rang. They accept dogs.

We love the campsite at Southwold. It's on the estuary, near the beach, good loos etc, lovely pub a short walk away and fab yacht chandlery that does great coffee and cake and a brilliant little town for wt days

bobkate · 04/05/2012 20:15

treblesallround I don't suppose you can remember the name can you? Only Southwold would suit us a treat..not too far away.
kahlua4me I have done a search, but as a novice camper it's hard to interpret the reviews sometimes iykwim. One I did find by searching was Brick Kiln Farm, which I thought looked perfect....but it's booked for when we wanted to go Sad.
Another which I thought looked ok was Mill Hill Farm near Westleton and Dunwich. Don't suppose anyone has been to either? Perfect example of not being sure how to judge the reviews on that one...some say the tents are pitched at bottom of steep slope, so a bit of a trek to the loos, someone else put in their review that the slope isn't that steep at all and not too long a walk to the loos! So at first I had visions of walking my 4year old up Ben Nevis in the middle of the night, then it changed to a quick nip to the loo which would be fine Grin
I have so many other questions once the site is chosen....but I'll save those for another thread!

Bobkate, it's called the Harbour Campsite, and there are reviews on the campsite uk site. We've not been for a few years, but I've always loved the location
