Advice for a first trip to France

I'm trying to pursuade DH to take the caravan to France, and would appreciate some advice.

I'm thinking we'll travel south on the Friday, stay near Dover overnight and then take the Ferry to Calais fairly early Saturday morning.

I'd like to find a nice site, preferably not too far from the coast, but also not too far from Calais, maybe 2 hours driving at most.

For the return journey I was thinking we'd take a early afternoon ferry back to Dover and then stay over again before travelling back home.

Does this sound reasonable for a first trip?

Can anyone suggest a good site?

No suggestions for sites as we slog down to the vendee. Prices on the ferry can be very high if towing. We use tesco vouchers for a free crossing via eurotunnel.

Lots of advice on the abroad forum of uk campsite

have a look at sites in Picardie/the Baie de Somme. Not too far from Calais. The Flower chain of campsites have a few there, as do Kawan. Two hours inland from Calais is - in my opinion - not the nicest part of France so I would stick to the coast or maybe consider Belgium or holland (Zeeland). Bear in mind though that these areas aren't that far from Southern England so don't expect Med style sunshine (although you could be lucky!)

Another big fan of eurotunnel here, France in 30 mins! Amazing and much cheaper than ferry - we've done it twice now in our camper and wouldn't do any other x

We've taken the car on the eurotunnel, but won't it be much more expensive that the ferry, with the caravan?

babylon Sorry I didn't read your post properly, I'll have to compare the cost, although to be honest DD has been on the eurotunnel twice so the Ferry would be more of an experience for her.
