Family campsites in Dorset..

Have just returned from our first ever weekend camping in the new forest with our 4 young DC... Freezing, windy, wet, exhausting.....we loved it! Am getting very excited about where to go next and we quite fancy Dorset.

Can anyone recommend a family campsite - looking for some facilities eg hot showers, toilets etc, ideally a play area for the children but really like the more rural sites rather than
the big holiday park type places..any suggestions gratefully received...

Hello. This thread is a little old - for up-to-date campsite recommendations, take a look at our round-up of Mumsnetters’ favourite UK campsites.

I'm thinking of going to Dorset too and can't decide between Norden Farm and Burnbake

longthorn farm near monkey world?
just a farm with pitches and chemical or composting toilets, very few electrical hook ups. short drive to the beach.

Durdle Door is lovely. It is a holiday park but very low key, has a great wooden playground. here

I second longthorns. It has toilets now and is the most relaxed chilled place with loads of space and woods for the children to play and build dens in. Campfires too

Ooooo thank you! Will check those out now, they sound great... Someone at the campsite we just stayed at recommended a place called Inside the Park? Has anyone else been there? Cheers. Smile

The Inside Park is on my list of Campsites To Visit. Am planning on a stay there next year, it looks fab!

We are members of the Camping and Caravanning Club and 2yrs ago stayed at Crabbs Bluntshay Farm which is a Certificated Site, near Bridport. It is a basic, smallish site on a small dairy farm, but had a shower/loo/washing up block and EHU. It was also cheap, £10 when we went. No play area but we raided poundland for bats, balls etc and my girls had a whale of a time. There are reviews on www.ukcampsite.co.uk .

I wasn't brave enough to camp this Easter, too cold for me what a wimp and can't wait till we get the tent out when it warms up a bit.

Hi Tattychicken

We camped at the Inside Park over Easter and loved it. It definitely errs on the rural side rather than holiday park campsite. It has hot showers, clean toilets and a great play area for the children which we had to coax our two away from. Sat night at 5pm a fish & chip van arrived with delicious food. It also has a small shop.

Everyone was very friendly and our little ones went to bed with owls hooting in the background and woke in the morning to small birds singing. We liked it so much we've booked to go back already!

We have caravaned at the Inside Park insidepark many times over the last few years. Our caravan is stored there and we have not been anywhere else. We like it very much and would highly recommend it. Have you phoned to check availability though ? They do not have that much room usually. Any questions, please do ask.

Jurassic Coast has lots of sites, Westbay Holiday park is good, Freshwater just on the other side of the cliff at Westbay Harbour is another and there is also another site at Eype which is the over the other cliff on the other side heading towards Lyme Regis
