Due to various health reasons we only got to go camping once last year, and got washed out on the first night so are desperate to get back into it this year.

But, we are a bit stuck on good camp meals for a family of 4 (kids age 6 and 4).

Problem is DD1 won't eat anything in a sauce which makes camp one-pots out.
All I can think of is sausages, bacon, beans and bread. Cereal for brekkie.
Fruit and cereal bars for snacks.

But what else can we eat for tea which doesn't come in a major sauce. We tried 'starving' her last year by only giving her sausage sarnies, but the combination of lack of food and lack of sleep was no good.

HELP!!

Spanish omlette - saute red pepper strips, onion, potato slices until cooked through, add beaten egg, cook gently till done. Top with cheese if wanted, Eat with crusty bread and salad.

Fajitas - saute chicken strips and red and yellow pepper strips until done, add a sachet of fajita spices, pile the mix into tortilla wraps and sprinkle cheese or dollop sour cream on. You can also do 'beany fajitas' by making some refriend beans (saute diced onion, add drained tin of kidney beans and season, mash)

Supernoodles with sausages?
We used to eat tins of stewed steak in gravy is that too saucy? With some bread or potatoes (also available in tins).
Scrambled egg made in pan or boiled eggs?
Pasta (you guys could have sauce and ds can have grated cheese)?
Packets of savoury rice or couscous just add water and have with cold meat or sausages etc.

Sorry dd not ds

Fry ups are usually possible, or jacket spuds if you have a firepit available, or as others have said, pasta, cous cous or noodles.... all of course served with sausages Grin

Paella?

ilovedjasondonovan · 06/04/2012 18:07

Oh yeah, forgot to say she hates eggs as well (as do I, so I can understand that one).
Liking the pasta idea, didn't think of that one for camping.

Chips from the chip shop!

Loving the chips idea! Quesadillas?

Buy a Dutch oven to go on top of the stove? I got one for about £20 off eBay. Not used it yet but thinkk you can do things like pizza and jacket spuds in it.

We do fresh pasta - easy

Hot dogs in rolls - easy

Camembert Cheese melted on the BBQ, with french stick for dipping - easy

IllegitimateGruffaloChild · 06/04/2012 21:25

That should say 'fresh filled pasta' - ie no need for sauce

We have a cobb and a petrol stove.

Do pizzas on the cob.

But Pancakes always go down well, on the stove in a frying pan. Usually use the pancake mis in a bottle for ease.

MrsHeffley · 07/04/2012 18:44

We have a cob too and often do roasted chicken portions with roasted veg on top and underneath, jackets, roast chicken, roast corn cobs....

Noodles?

MNHubbie · 07/04/2012 22:38

Electric hook up or not?

We do a lot of slowcooking when camping so we can put it on the in morning and have it ready for us when we get back (chillies, curries, whole chickens etc).
