Electric Vs non-electric

have to say.... have never been camping with leccy before, so wondering .... do I REALLY need it? Price diff is negligible tbh at most sites, but I kinda feel it takes away the Bear Gryllis excitement of lanterns and roughing it a bit. Think I have most luxuries now... and akin to Nigella in the kitchen for lushiousness... so this last temptation of civilised camping is a toss of the coin at the moment.

Thoughts anyone?

I was finally convinced by DH to get a electric hook up and really would not camp with out it, we still rough it with lanterns and outside cooking, but we also charge up our phones and if it is raining our teenage ds gets good use out of a portable dvd player, also on our last camping trip it was really cold and I could not be arsed didn't want to wait in the rain to make tea and toast, so we bought a cheap toaster, and hey presto! We also borrow an electric fridge box from our friends which we plug in during the day and stays cold by it self over night, it saves a fortune having to get fresh milk butter etc every morning. HTH

For me it was great for the heater at night. Our first trip with DS as a baby I had a very sleepless night wondering/getting up to check he hadn't frozen (looking back I may have been a bit PFB/neurotic, as it was August!).....

The electric coolbox made life easier and having EHU meant I could charge the mobile/camera etc. Oh, and we have an electrical inflatable bed Grin - so for me its worth it.

Calamityboo · 02/04/2012 21:24

Ooh I forgot about the electric bed pump, it is brilliant when you wake in the night with your arse on the ground sheet and need quick pump up! Grin we also bought a rechargable lantern!

I've never used EHU, and I think we've got it all covered.

thanks ladies. Just had a thought... I;d need a special hook up cable, wouldnt I?

You would do wolf. But the joy of cold Pimms in the evening and fresh milk in the morning (and not having to shop everyday) is as they say priceless!

Migsy1 · 02/04/2012 22:17

EHU - If I could use one every time I would. Well worth it.

Wolfgirl · 02/04/2012 22:22

wolfiefan you might just have sold it to me now... that with ice cold beers ;-)))

I bought an ehu cable last year and am yet to use it. Something, not sure what, is stopping me from taking that step!

The only thing I've seen listed, so far, that might just make me change my mind would be the mobile phone charging but it's a big old cable to take just to charge my phone. Also, I nearly always camp with others who have ehu so I usually 'borrow' enough power to make my phone last until I go home. I suppose I could just charge it in the car if I was desperate.

It is great to have an electric light in the tent, especially when you are trying to find your stuff at night.

Migsy1 · 03/04/2012 08:00

Don't get one at Argos - too expensive.

mogs0 · 03/04/2012 08:43

I bought mine in go outdoors for £30 which I thought was quite reasonable...except I have never used it so maybe not that reasonable!

Migsy1 · 03/04/2012 10:59

I got mine from this great store when it was on offer for £30
