Annecy - camping in August - what do I need to know?

Hi,

We are going to Annecy in August and are camping in a little campsite a bit back from the lake - we have not been to this area before and have 2 DC (5yo and 2yo). We will be taking our bikes, so will most likely use them to cycle to the lake to swim, etc.

Will visit Annecy town, as it looks beautiful. Possibly Mont Blanc for the day. The rest of the time will just be spent chilling out and letting the kids play.

Is there anything/anywhere you would recommend we do/go? Are there mozzies around the lake area?

If there is anything else you think I should know, I'm all ears!! TIA Smile

Bikes are a great idea, the traffic around annecy is hellish during the summer. If you are on the side of the lake with the dedicated bike lane, you'll be able to get in and out if annecy easily. It's a beautiful town and you might be there for fetes de lac, where they have fantastic fireworks. Lots of pedalos and water skiing too.

The ski stations are also great for a visit during the summer - Le Grand Bornand is near Annecy and has a special Kids festival during the summer. Some great mountain hikes around, even for small kids.

Fantastic for a holiday, you'll have a ball.

Oh, not a lot of mozzies, it's a bit high for them. You do get the odd bitey thing but I've never had to use repellent. You do need to watch out for ticks if you are in the forests hiking - be sure the kids wear hats.

If you take the cable car up to Mont Blanc from Chamonix then do remember to take sweatshirts for the time you are at the top. Also do take something to be sick into on the ride in case anyone suffers a combination of altitude/travel sickness. (Nappy sacks make good sick bags!)

Despite the grim warnings above, I do actually recommend it, the view on the day we went up was amazing.

There is a tourist train around Annecy which I really would recommend (these are always great with small children)
