This could be an expensive weekend! (Motorhomes.....)

I rashly bought DH a Motorhome magazine to cheer him up last week. We have always said we would like to get one nearer retirement age, and we love camping. I let him go to shows and dream every year as a fun day out.

Have been looking at gadgets, he now wants a Ghillie kettle so he can burn things, but.......

he has booked me to go and see a HUGE motorhome on Saturday, and is saying it is such a good deal why not get one now?

Eek!

Part of me would love it, part thinks "how much" and looks at the list of Home Improvements that keeps growing.

Do I want a fixed bed, 6 berth, full sized fridge, cooker, tv etc etc?? It is not my "dream layout" -it is bigger, but it has VERY low mileage.

Would you buy a Motorhome? What layout do you have? Does it work for you?

We are on our third motor home, it took that many to get the layout right... Plus another child over the years!
Ours at the moment is a 7 berth one with a huge over cab double and bunks at the rear.
We love it.
It is a very expensive thing to have, running costs, storage and diesel to name a few.
We use it for all our holidays though and the children adore the home from home.

Thanks

I didn't want an overhead berth - just a fixed double, but this one has both! I am worried it will be too big for really just the 2 of us, but DH wants flexibility for others to join us if they like.

We have adequate parking here, but it will be another vehicle to tax, insure and fill up with expensive fuel! We have already booked our hols for this summer, but after next year it will just be the 2 of us at home so we could use it a LOT.

Do you try and cook outside on BBQs etc where possible, or do you use the cooker as it is there?

Also - do you let anyone use the loo? Grin

If it is just the two of you, you don't need a big over cab one, they are a pain to park in car parks... Height barriers.
We cook a lot outside using either a cadac or BBQ.
No number twos in the loo..... Unless you are 4 and desperate!
Could you possibly hire one to see if you enjoy it?
I bet you will be hooked.

We have a six berth with fixed bunks an overhead bed and a double in the middle. We have never used the double because we keep the table up all the time. Sometimes we use the overhead but if we have friends we use the bunks and they use the overhead. We have two wardrobes so I use one for my stuff and DH uses the other. We have a garage under the bunks for keeping seats, table, BBQ etc as the amount of stuff you collect is unbelievable. We use it for weekends, I would like to use it for holidays but prefer a holiday abroad for the weather. We keep certain things in it, ie toiletries, boots etc and just hang up our clothes and fill the fridge before we go. You will love it I'm sure. I don't think I have found my ideal layout either but we will keep this one for a few more years.
