Am new to caravaning! Is it worth joining the Caravan Club or Camping and Caravan Club. Which is best?

HIya we are in both but we prefer Camping and caravan club sites although sometimes its better to use commercial sites as they are a bit child friendlier sometimes you get oldies TUTTING but not often , I use Ukcampsites website to look for sites ,

Mrsjay · 06/03/2012 13:09

no we prefer caravan club DUH Grin

babyjames · 06/03/2012 13:15

That's a vote for both then! We have a toddler (2 this week) and am looking for a nice fairly quiet site to go not too far from midlands in the June half term. Thinking Cotswolds. Its all a bit over whelming! Am keen to go but the more I look the more confused I get!

what you can do is do a search of sites i think some do a tick box of what you are looking for a nice quite site would probably do you but you want somewhere with a park or a nice walk with your Little one so she can run about and let off some steam , caravan club toilet blocks are fab really clean and they have a familiy bathroom too well most of them do ,

babyjames · 06/03/2012 14:25

yes that sounds just what we are looking for. Nice to know that the club toilet blocks are nice. Thanks

Caravan club sites are of a high standard.

serin · 07/03/2012 23:53

Caravan club CL's are just brilliant, £10 a night in the summer hols Grin

but their club sites are often more expensive than commercial ones.

Rallying is fun and great value, each region has its own rally centres and it is free to join once you are a member of CC.

Mrsjay · 08/03/2012 08:45

hi serin we have never used a cl site i do like a normal loo to go into do they have shower blocks , ? the bst caravan club site we have been on is on the longleat estate we were woken by sea lions barking wolfs howling , and something we were not quite sure what it was Grin we are going back this year , I think CC sites are fine for a few days but we have had better deals on commercial sites for summer Holidays

babyjames · 08/03/2012 22:20

Have just booked a site in the cotswolds for June

We have a toilet in our van but no shower as its a folding van so I like to know they have a half decent shower! £10 a night sounds great. Do you pay the a direct debit for membership or the whole amount at once. I'm looking forward to this getting into it this year now :) Hope its not too testing with a young toddler!

Mrsjay · 08/03/2012 22:28

is it a CC site you booked ? I like a toilet and a shower , we have a loo i dont mind weeing in it but not for anything else I just couldnt cope with emptying it EWWW . We have caravanned on and off for years we took dd1 when she was 3 she loved it ,

babyjames · 11/03/2012 20:48

Yes it is. I forget the name right now. Feeling quite excited now after the sunny weekend :) I like the sound of Longleat. My DS would love that!

use Tesco Vouchers to pay to enter longleat estate - and if you ring up Clubcard you can get 2 days not one as on t'internet.

We went last summer and it is great.

Oblomov · 12/03/2012 03:28

Could someone please give some more info on Serin's post about the Caravan Club costing £10. Really? £10 per night. When? How? what does that get you?
I only ask because we pay £25 for every night and £10 thus does look very cheap.
Could someone please tell me more.

Furball · 12/03/2012 11:09

I think it's in the certified location sites - ie no or limited facilities and only 5 caravans per site

VivaLeBeaver · 12/03/2012 14:51

I've been in both - have stayed in the caravan and camping club. I find that their sites are easier to book and elss likely to be booked up ages in advance. They also have their version of Certified Sites, I've paid £3 a night before.

Both clubs have been of very high standards in their main sites' cleanliness, etc.

I think it would depend on what sites were in the area(s) that I thought I was most likely to visit. If there was an area I knew I'd want to go to quite a few times and only one club had a site there then I'd pick that one.

babyjames · 13/03/2012 21:07

Thanks for the replies. I will look into the tesco deal too :)
