Can anyone recommend a decent windbreak?

one that actually stays up would be nice. Currently got a wooden pole one and it's crap even when I've hammered it in with a mallet.

I need the answer to this too.

We have the Vango 6 pole one but it's not the prettiest of things. Plus you can't really see what's going on as there is only a small strip to peek though. It does a good job though. It has guy ropes to keep it secure.

We managed to get ours fairly cheap at the end of last year.

Windbeak

How about these lovely things? Stripey Windbreak

VivaLeBeaver · 22/02/2012 22:06

Mmmm, stripey one is nice but same wooden poles as my current one so I think it would be unstable like mine. Vango one looks good, thanks. Will see how cheap I can get it.

We are on our 3rd windbreak. Had a kyham before this one which died the first time we used it. It had lots of guys and appeared sturdy but couldnt hack it.We reverted back to wooden after that and got a blue diamond windbreak. That was about 5 years ago . It does move after a few days ( I think we rehammered two or 3 times in our 2 week stay in cornwall last summer)and it gives in very windy weather but I think that makes it work better tbh ( and stops it from ripping like the kyham) . The poles are very tall and long and also, it's pretty.Smile

So Troutpout do you think the wooden pole ones are better? I bought mine for £8 in Skegness, it was very much a beach one rather than a camping one. Is this like your current wooden pole one?

I think my blue diamond one is better Grin
I had a wooden beachy type one years ago which was pants tbh.
Blue diamond ones have long steel capped spikes and have very tough wood . The bit you hammer has steel on too. Plus the fabric is clipped onto the frame.
Perhaps this helps
Anyway.. It works... We are sticking with it.

here

Thyat looks a lot better than my wooden pole one, mine doesn't have steel spikes, etc.

Thanks Trout just ordered the navy stripe one for £40 including P&P. :)

W have a khyam one which has metal poles.

On the plus side, it packs up small and it's light. It's a maze of guy ropes to keep it in place though and it's still a bit saggy and sorry for itself after a day or 2.

I might go for a blue diamond one. How do you get them in the back of the car though, is that a problem?Confused

troutpout · 23/02/2012 19:37

Doyouthink-It could be a problem ... depends on what you've got.We have a roof rack with a roof box. The windbreak is strapped on alongside .

You can buy those fancy poles on their own from trout's link! If I had half a mind I could buy some fabric and make some really funky ones, I suppose it would be easy enough if I could use a sewing machine

i have a shitty tesco one which i haven't tried out yet but got in the sale for £4

we had a gelert one but i HATE the guyropes... just too much stuff to trip over.
