We used to camp a lot, DH and I, but haven't camped since we had the kids. We're planning on going towards the end of the summer when they will be 3yrs and 2 yrs old.
We will be borrowing a family sized tent the first time so we can decide what we do/don't like about it so we have an idea what we want when we come to buy our own - our old 2 man backpacking tent might not be enough anymore!

Anyway, is there anything we should know or should buy to make sure we are prepared for camping with two toddlers?
How do people cook with toddlers around? What is the safest way? I'm guessing we'll have to buy a proper camping stove?

The days of us with just a trangia is over isn't it?!

An inflatable paddling pool - one of the dirt cheap supermarket jobbies. Blow it up in a shower cubicle, fill it with hot water from the shower, add a few bubbles and that's the bath sorted. Obviously pick a time when people aren't queuing out of the door! Once finished, empty and deflate to pack away small.

Fleecy underblankets to go under them and over whatever they are sleeping on. Pyjamas on long before bedtime with clothes piled back on top again - much warmer than trying to change once the sun's gone and taken all the warmth with it.

Second the wind up torches, and also waterproof trousers - work fine over PJs, but put them back on for a bit once dressed as the grass is always a bit damp in the mornings and it stops them getting soggy as soon as they trip over the tent and land in the grass. Which will happen every time.

My number one camping accessory is the ipad - download some kids programmes & games for quiet early morning entertainment (and so you can get a shower in peace).

And once you've packed the car fill every single remaining space with baby wipes.

We always take plastic animals with no seams or holes, endless hours of fun in the sand or mud and no wet patches from soggy toys. Agree with the duvet underneath them aswell as on top. Big pad and colouring pens go a long way too. Mine love a felt marker to turn pebbles in to crazy animals at the beach.
