Done all the others but never winter and do you know what, it was fine.

Left the dc with the pil and then dh and I set forth to pitch at a site attached to a pub.

I had to laugh when the guy told us where to pitch in the big empty field of grass with one mournful caravan in the corner.

Afternoon and evening spent in pub. 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep had in tent. Didn't freeze. Sleeping bag and new thermals worked a treat. Bacon sarnie and coffee had in pub in morning. Went for walk. Came home.

Respect Slubber!

It was really mild and sunny this morning and I wondered whether it was camping weather!

When I was young I used to camp in winter - in the Cairngorms to go ice climbing. I never remember feeling cold, but i don't think i would be mad keen to do that now.

I have told dh you survived...it is v v tempting to do recently....

Wow! I'm impressed!

I think I'd be prepared to go but I'd not be able to drag dh or the dses for love nor money

I had to work on dh a lot to go last April....it turned out to be our hottest camping trip of the yearGrin

I'm too cowardly to spend the night in a tent on my own. I'd have to borrow a dog or somethingGrin

Blu I'm not sure I would do the 'sit around the table playing cards' type camping in February.

I was thinking about the how and whys of going in the winter and figured it's either while you are doing something super energetic (like ice climbing! Shock), or you do the bell tent with stove thing, or you stay in the pub until the last minute and then leg it into the tent. Staying warm (and dry) obviously the main issues.

Thermometer on the tent this morning said 9degs but I didn't feel cold at all in the night. Quite the opposite, was stripping off long John and blankets and hat/buff combos like mad.

Seashells for the time being it will be the only affordable way dh and I get to go away (properly away) for a night or a weekend. We both really, really enjoyed ourselves. The pies and ale last night and then bacon bap and big mug of coffee in the pub this morning certainly helped to convince him of its merits.

Saurus, both you and he being able to drink with no taxi fees, could you charm dh with that?

Pitch last night cost £8. Even though the site was fairly nearby taxi costs there and back would have cost us way more.

And did I mention 12 hours sleep. Leaving dc with someone else probably essential to achieve this though.
