Annecy campsite recommendations please?

Hi,

We are looking to camp (with our own stuff) in the Annecy area for about 3 weeks, unfortunately it will have to be in August high season! Can anyone recommend a nice, quiet(ish) campsite that would be suitable for a young family please? I expect it will be heaving around there at that time of year...

It doesn't have to be on the lake, actually I think we would prefer one a little further back, so that is is more quiet. DC's are 5 and 2. Not overly bothered if there is a pool, although it would be nice to have one. Don't need all the bells and whistles, fairly basic with decent pitches would do us, and near the cycle paths would be a bonus as we will be taking our bikes.

If anyone could recommend, that would be great - it's so hard to make a decision based on all the websites. Thanks Smile

we stayed at a municipal site for a couple of nights as the campsites where not cheap in this area - sorry probably not what you want to hear..

Hi, thanks for your reply.

What did you think of the municipal site? We found a lovely looking site further back from the lake and very reasonable campinglecretoux, but worried that there would be no-one for the DC's to play with, as it seemed very quiet.

We will be there for 3 weeks but don't want to move again, as it is too much hassle packing, etc....

Regardless of cost (which I am expecting for the area/time of year), is there anywhere you'd recommend?

There wasn't many English at all, no-one for dd to play with. We moved south of the lake a bit to another site which was better than the municipal and there was swimming pool etc - but never any English dc to play with.
I have stayed near Chambery before and there was a lot more English and a lot more children around for mine to play with - short drive to go and see lake annecy, if you are in a car, as it is well worth a visit.

It was this campsite we stayed on when the dd's where smaller I thought it was a lovely camp site, nice pool lots of facilities without being over crowded or crushed in the height of the season (I was there in August) and there where a lot of English.

This was back in 2003 though when the euro was much better and the french inflation was less - so not sure how many English venture that far now? as there wasn't much of any other nationality back then.

Thanks for the link, I will take a look! Was there no children for your DC to play with or the fact they didn't speak English? I remember our holidays where we played with lots of non-British kids, even though we didn't speak the lingo. I don't remember it being a problem, but not sure for our DC's.....

We will have our car, so it is not essential that we stay near/on the lake.

Thanks!
