If it rains when you are camping where do you cook?

Before I had 3 dc i used to stick the trangia out in the rain and hope for the best, but things need to be a little more sophisticated.

Having watched Youtube videos of tents going up in flames in a matter of seconds, I think we would just eat cold food (crusty bread, cheese, salad) if we found ourselves in the rain.

There is a campsite on the shores of Loch Ness that has a proper cooking/eating shelter... though to be fair, they do need it most of the time! Wink

Great campsite, will try and find a link...

Hmm I think it was this place... but they seem to have 'revamped' it somewhat since we were there Sad

It was great- you could camp right on the water's edge, and cook in the dry... bah.

yep tarp here too - although the forrin option as what was suggested by the slubbermeister is the best way to go. Mind you the sun can be a bit of a bugger in your eyes at 7pm (we eat late)

I brew tea inside though as I have my travel kettle - vital camping kit if you have ehu.

We cook in the porch. And don't watch youtube videos. Our tent has a back door too though.

If it rains a lot we just go home though.

I've cooked in the tent before and it's only MN that has put me off this. Everyone I know cooks in the tent. When I do it, I stay by the stove the entire time, right next to it. Don't step away for a second, so I figure the chances of it being walked into, etc are minimal.

I've had a camper van for the last few years but have sold it now and back to a tent and I am now put off cooking in the tent. I've bought a canvas bell tent which should be safer but don't want to risk it.

Think I'm going to get a malu tarp thingy. Saying that the very expensive campsite I'm going to in the summer charges £5 extra a night for an awning....not sure if this means a tarp as well. Daylight robbery when it's marked pitches and you've paid for a pitch at £40 a night.
