Ile de Re - Camping

Thought about going camping this summer (with own tent) to Ile de Re, France with dd 2.5 years old. Anyone been there? Anyone recommend a good campsite? We went to Brittany last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. But want somewhere a bit warmer this time. Looking to go late June.

I have never been to the Ile de Re, but I have been to mainland France in the Vendee....it is quite a bit warmer than Brittany, and tends to have a bit less rain as well. Are you taking your own tent, what sort of facilities do you want? I have been to a few sites on the mainland that I could recomend if you are interested.

I think Marina has been to Ile de Re.

I've been to the Ile de Re (pre-kids) but not stayed there. We camped at Chatelaillon Plage which was lovely. I think the bridge over to the island is a toll bridge, so if you're planning on doing much travelling to and from the mainland it might get a tad expensive. Otherwise no advice - it's a lovely place. I'm sure the donkeys in trousers will be irresistable to a 2.5 year old!

We went to Ile de Re last year with 6yr old and 11 month old.We didn't camp though -stayed in a gite.

Beautiful island, great beaches, bit windy at times but very sunny when we went at end of May. Very self-contained island-we didn't leave the island for the 10 days we were there.Lots of lovely little villages, markets etc.

The only "tourist-type" attraction we went to was a bird/animal park -DD loved it but it was, how shall I put it......basic, dated and not very high-tech. (If you go there look out for the composer/musicians performance - we nearly wet ourselves watching him - he took himself so seriously and performed as if he was in the Albert Hall or something!).

Back over the bridge to the mainland in La Rochelle theres an aquarium thats apparently good although we didn't go there.

Hope some of thats of interest. If I think of anything else I'll let you know
