Campsite recommendations in the South of France

We would like to go to the South of France in the first two weeks of July. I would like a beach location, with shaded camping area, ideally a pool. I would prefer a quieter campsite than a huge one with lots of facilities. Looking on google maps, some if the campsites look enormous and the beaches look very busy.

Errrrr....

The problem is that of course coastline is limited so you will tend to find that most of the coastal sites are big with lots of facilities.

If you want a quieter campsite then you could look further inland:

Rather than the South, how about the Dordogne, there are some excellent campsites which will tend to be a bit quieter than the coastal ones even in peak season.

That's what I feared! Beach access is a critical component though. Maybe I shall just have to give it a go.

Are you planning to take your own kit or book in with a Eurocamp type operation? If the latter you will need to get booking!

From experience I would suggest Languedoc rather than Cote D'Azur (St Trop was heaving in September so heaven knows what it will be like in July).

Going in early July will tend to be quieter than the sharpest point on the peak of the season so even big campsites may not be so busy. Also campsites are family holiday destinations so will tend to be less raucous than hotel based resorts.

DH has also suggested looking at the 'sister' campsites. An example of this is Camping La Sirene in Argeles which is large and lively but its sister campsite is L'Hippocamp on the other side of the road which was a lot quieter.

Good luck, I hope you find a good compromise.

Thank you for the suggestions. We will be driving from Geneva so maybe the Languedoc region might be a good compromise.

Yellow Village Club Farret is right on the beach. Beautiful but big site. We loved the best of both worlds with pool and beach.

We stayed here last summer, www.ecureuils.mobi/ really quiet. Walking distance to safe beach lakeside, surfing beach a short drive away.

Very quiet, clean site. Fresh bread daily.
