Like the look of this site and have read good reviews for it but many of them comment on the weather in this region. Lots of the reviews say it rains alot here. Any one been?

Been near Gex just outside of Geneva

The summer weather can change dramatically from very hot to cold and wet in a matters of hours

It is so beautiful I go most summers, but stay in a house. Hoping to take camper one year soon

charity2 · 26/01/2012 21:23

Thanks eagle, we are still keen to go. Was hoping for a few more replies really to see what the general opinion is.

Only had two holidays in that region but it was blazing sunshine the whole two weeks.

Lake Annecy is fantastic and I note there is a site there

Its the cleanest lake I've ever swam in, the council saw the potential generations ago and banned all waste going into it. It has peddalos to hire etc

The surrounding mountains are a beautiful back drop

charity2 · 27/01/2012 11:39

Thanks Daisy, thats what I wanted to hear, :-)
Eagle, I'm going to see if I can find that site now, if you know the name of it can you post it here thanks.

Oooh I was looking at la pergola but have booked le fayolan instead.

Check wunderground for previous years weather stuff.

Think there's about 50/50 rain, usually warm though.

charity2 · 27/01/2012 21:41

Enorma, thanks for that. Ive just looked at that site and it looks really nice. We've been searching mainly on the ukcampsitereview website and it isnt showing on there for some reason so thats why we've missed it.

Do you know someone who has been? Please tell me what you know about the site (other than whats on the website) and the area. How far to a decent supermarket?

We are taking a 26ft touring caravan so not sure how easy it will be towing in that area, will have to check it out.

Its definitely one I'm going to look into more. Looks lovely.

In a car it takes about 12 hours Geneva to London using the euro star with no caravan

eaglewings · 27/01/2012 22:34

Lots of inclines!

ENormaSnob · 28/01/2012 09:55

Think it's roughly 430 miles Calais to le fayolan.

Haven't been before so can't really vouch for it but the site looks great. Has all the amenities that we wanted. Reports say there is a nearby supermarket and bank plus the area is said to be very beautiful.

Have booked directly with yelloh.

When you looking at going?

charity2 · 28/01/2012 11:17

We have 3 weeks off as from 20th July. Think we will do a 2-3 night stopover on the way there and back so will do 10-14 days on the site itself. Are you camping or in one of the mobile homes? When are you going?

Oh, and we are driving from north of england so its gona be a fairly long drive on total. It will take us approx 6 hrs to get to dover with towing our caravan. Think it will be worth it though.

ENormaSnob · 29/01/2012 16:42

We are going on the 13th aug for 11 nights.

Travelling from the north west so about 6 hours to Dover, overnight stay then early ferry and across to Jura in one hit.

Will be taking our own tent this year.

Can't wait Grin

smith1 · 29/01/2012 20:24

We are also off from the north west with a dover crossing on 10th Aug for 2 weeks. Can't decide whether to go further south than the Loire in France, or across Germany way. Have been to Luxembourg before and it was beautiful, so guessing all that region will be quite similar. Do love the look of Le Fayolan.

MrsCornish · 29/01/2012 20:30

We stayed in Domaine de Chalain on the other side of the lake, about 10 years ago, in the last two weeks of the season, ie end Aug/beg Sept. It was so beautiful, and the lake is so gorgeous. I confess it rained a few times, but that didn't bother us, we just walked through the gorgeous forests, enjoyed the pool, the boating, we drove up into the alps...ahhh. heaven. When it was sunny it was lovely and hot.

We drove from SE England with one stop in Reims, and came back in one day, took about 10 hrs door to door I think. Or maybe 7. Not sure.

You'll have a wonderful time!

MrsCornish · 29/01/2012 20:33

We always drive through France rather than Germany as the toll roads are wider, safer and quieter than the german autobahns with their endless no-warning on and off ramps. Worth the money. Also worth getting a Liber-t thingy for your car so you don't have to queue at the tolls. you pay 10 euros as a one off fee, and then all your tolls are charged to your card at the same rate as if you were paying for them in cash at the time. brilliant!

Binfullofsiliconelimbsonthe45 · 29/01/2012 20:42

Hi I live in the Jura, and yes the storms and rain can be dramatic, however they tend to be short furious bursts, and due to the summer heat the ground dries quickly. You do get advance warning though - the humidity and warm strong winds mean it's time to peg everything down and plan some rainy day activity..! We are usually woken up at night time by noisy rain on our flat roof and explosive thunderstorms rattling the shutters. So perhaps find the most sheltered area of the campsite if you can! Normally in the morning it's all drying off.

Last summer was pretty freakish, the summer before was great, storms came in Sept...like the UK it's the luck of the draw.

Also you need plenty of bug repellent or screens as during the storms the little critters tend to seek shelter and you can wake up with a load of bites. I use one of those plug in ones and keep the windows closed.

HTH.
