camping with 18mth old...what to do about showering/bathing?

We will be camping in July with our 18 month old for the first time.

Just wondering what does everyone else to regarding showering/bathing their young children?

I know the shower blocks on most sites are clean but i am not happy about standing or sitting my daughter on the shower floor (i even wear flip flops in the shower!)

Also she isnt keen on showers generally so was thinking about taking her old baby bath so that i could sit her in it to bathe her.

We are not limited on space so thats not an issue but cant think of any other way of doing this.

Am i missing a really obvious option or does anyone have any useful tips or ideas?

Some places have large sinks that you can do little baths for them in. Mostly though, we just wash them down with a flannel and a bit of soap at the end of each day then wrap them up warm in pyjamas. We don't go away for very long holidays though so this is ample and they have a good bath when we come home again.

I might be really gross but when we went away with DS last year who was 18mo ish we just didn't bother with baths, he doesn't have one every day any way Blush so its not like its a important bit of his bedtime routine s didn't seem to bother him - we do however seem to take a huge amount of baby wipes when we go camping - i couldn't cope without them :o - that said first thing we seem to do when we get home is chuck him in the bath :o

Take one of those plastic boxes with you - the kind you keep toys etc...in (30/40 litre?) use it for packing tinned food or cooking pots or something in. Then when you are unpacked you can use it round the campsite for all kinds of things - carrying dishes around and washing small children etc..... Just heat up some water and let them have a bath outside the tent - behind a windbreak if they are into modesty.

If you take a big bucket (or garden trug thing) you can wash em in that!

Or babywipes!

have used washing up bucket when ds that age as he freaked at showers, trug/storage box better though Grin outside - although his most common wash when camping is when we go to local leisure centre because its raining!

Summer infant used to do a bath that folded flat and you inflated the base of it by blowing it up. You would still have to think about how to fill it though, it looked as big as an normal bath when up.

We used a v small inflatable paddling pool - it was about 18 inches across and 6 inches deep. Just the right size for lo to splash around in warm water in.

i think i will go with the baby bath for her to sit in and see how we get on.

we just don't bother or shower with the dc, but only if they really really need it.

chrisrobin · 18/01/2012 13:29

We don't bother on campsites, we just use wet wipes or a flannel and sink. However some of the Caravan club sites that we've been on have designated family cubicles which have baby baths in them. You could maybe take a non-slip bath mat to put on the floor of the shower before going in.

hels71 · 18/01/2012 16:05

We either go to campsites with family bathrooms with a bath or I boil a kettle, fill the washing up bowl and wash her with a flannel or we go swimming!!!!

I always took a big plastic storage box (used it to pack stuff in) and then stood it in the shower, filled it up with the shower and bathed them in it.
