North Norfolk/Lincolnshire camping recommendations

We are looking for a child friendly site that allow tents and campervans, campfires (or at least BBQs) and decent loos & showers.

Any recommendations?

High Sand Creek, Stiffkey is lovely, perched right on the saltmarsh, with paths leading down (eventually) to the massive expanse of Stiffkey sands at low tide. I don't tbhink it allows fires, but yes to BBQs.

Breck Farm in the Weybourne / Sheringham area allows fires and is v popular,

Deepdale has made a name for itself in 'cool camping' circles, but I haven't been there. BBQs but no fires on the ground.

Stiffkey and Deepdale are best placed forthe fabulous wide open beaches and pine woods of Wells and Holkham and Brancaster, Breck Farm for the charming resorts of Sheringham and Cromer and the cliffy-shingly coast.

Thanks Blu. I'm favouring Breck Farm over the others because I am concerned about the marches and my small children (6 + 4). However I realise the others are more scenic and none of the reviews seem to mention the marshes being a problem - are they far enough away?

There are certainly shallolw muddy tidal creeks within easy reach of the Stiffkey site, but the site is very popular with families, it doesn't seem especially dangerous or risky.

High Sand Creek BECAUSE of the marshes - DSs 4, 5, 6 loved it.

Grockle - it sounds fun and I am definitely not a helicopter mum but am worried about the kids wandering to the marshes unaccompanied and how dangerous it is.

i have been to some north norfolk ones, don't know about open fires but kelling heath is good. has an outdoor swimming pool.

they have a sister site woodhill park which is also good, smaller, but closer to the beach. only thing i would warn you about is some of the tent plots back on to the main road, so try and avoid those pitches if possible as the traffic can be noisy at night.

Kelling heath is a fantastic hol park - very attractive heathland, lots of opportunities, the steam train has it's own stop on the site - but the camping site is very crowded in the summer hols - tents close together etc. It doesn't have any of the 'wild camping' vibe. Although the park itself is beautiful, with woods, walks, cycle tracks etc.

Hillbilly, honestly, unless your children are extremely disobedient and would be inclined to roam for miles off the paths without permission, High Sand Creek would be perfectly safe.

Thanks Blu -I guess you answered the question. No they would not wander far but I did not know how close the marshes were.

The marshes are down a wooded bank and across a little track. Unless they are completely unsupervised, DC wouldn't be able to get to them. We allowed our boys to play in the wooded area near the tent without an adult but they were under strict instructions not to leave the site and they didn't. I've camped at High Sand Creek more or less every year since I was 8 (in my 30s now) and never seen/ heard of any accidents on the marshes. Of course you need to be careful but I think there are more immediate dangers - cars on a campsite etc.

What is dangerous on that coast is crossing a channel at low tide and then walking miles out across sands, without knowing what time the ride turns. But again, no normal family of common sense with small children would do this. The beaches are lovely.
