We fancy the Lakes this year and we're coming from North Wales so mid/south Lakes would be ideal.

We usually camp with another family and we both have 2 children under 6. We don't need clubhouse/entertainment stuff but like clean toilets and showers and a small shop and play area if possible. No EHU needed either.

Does anyone know of any particularly nice sites Smile?

We went here in 2008. It absolutely lovely even though it rained constantly for the whole 2 weeks we were there.
I can't remember a play area, it would have been to wet to use it anyway.
Toilets were lovely
It looks like it's been refurbished since we went, but it was a lovely site. Very hilly but you could walk down to Coniston Lake, we were in a caravan, the tent pitches were nearer the lake.

Eskdale is lovely, but is the W Lakes so a bit of a pita to get to. Shop does the most delicious sausages and home made pies which might encourage you to drive further (the memory will definitely lure dh back).

No caravans either Smile

Thanks, it looks lovely fruitshoot Smile.

I've never used a caravan club site before, do you have to be a member?

Ooh, Slubber, looks interesting.

Do you know what age they start to charge for children? £10ish x2, plus £4ish x2 (if they charge for 2 year olds) plus £7ish per night for non-members = £35ish per night (x 5 or 6 nights = £200ish) which is more expensive than we're used to but not too mad for our main camp of the year.

Are you a member Slubber? Is it worth it?

I think they start to charge from age 6. We joined when we went there as it worked out cheaper to join and get the reduction than to stay for the week as non members iyswim.

Still not sure if it is worth it. Am hoping to do some more w/e camps at the small CS sites this year, which works out very reasonable. I wish they would sort their sodding website out though, jeez it's as slow as a wet weekend.

fruitshootsandheavesupafurball · 13/01/2012 17:43

err...I don't know if you need to be a member Blush

I think it depends on the site. Some are open to nonmembers

Amazing location, evening dog walk is up onto ridge looking over derwent water. Love keswick and borrowdale.

Nb-borrowdale is wettest bit of lakes, and the site is quite exposed. We were there for a storm and it was spectacular from the pub but the ground did get v wet where we were (but not fault of site just amount of pissing rain) facilities good.

Funtimewincies · 13/01/2012 17:57

That would be good if it's 6 as ds1 is 5 and we have to pay for him at lost sites this year. Thanks for the link Reshape, I'll take a look at that too Smile.

'most', not 'lost' Blush.
