Camping in early May in Dorset - too chilly? Or am I being a wimp?

Well /\ what that says really, anyone any experience of earlyish camping? We've all got SIMs, pretty good sleeping bags and elcheapo Argos duvets so once in bed, we should be fine. It;s the whole 'being chilly in the evening/morning/chattering of teeth etc' which is putting me off.

I'm being pathetic aren't I? please feel free to kickmeupthearse advise me on non-high-season-camping...

I camped twice year before last, once in mid May, which was really warm and lovely and I was never cold, and once mid august, which was fine for 2 days and nights but on the third morning it was absolutely freezing, so I'm not sure you can really plan it.

Sorry that didn't help really did it.

It will probably be chilly in the mornings can you have some warm things to put on when you emerge from the duvets? Fleecy socks, fleecy pjs that they've got in primark big jumpers etc?

I am being a wimp, aren't I? Yes, we have fleece clothing coming out of our ears, children all have all in ones from Primark plus, TBH, they rarely complain if it's chilly as it's so exciting to be away in the tent!

It's just me & thinking of the first 45 mins getting out of bed, going to the loo and getting to the stage of having a cup of coffee in my hands.

Will stop whinging and will just go & book somewhere now... Grin Thanks!

It'll be lovely. I want to go at Easter. Where are you going?

Shoutymomma · 20/01/2012 22:26

Season 3/4 bags, min. Lots of extra bedding for kids. Bag liners help but, bugger me, the mornings can be harsh.

Hats and thick socks to sleep in. Put extra mats and blankets under sleeping bag. Wrap blanket around sleeping bag to stop cold coming in through zip. Yes to decent sleeping bag. Not a cheapy or novelty one unless hypothermia appeals.
When temperature drops get in PJs and get warm clothes on top. Nothing worse than stripping off in the cold. Get an electric hook up. Kettle to be filled the night before and kept in reach to boil before getting out of bed!!!

I agree to not getting up until the tea is made- even better if you have a dh type creature to do it for you. You could get a low wattage fan heater to take the edge off.
