First time I went camping we paid 4 pounds per person per night and while the site was tiny with just a shower block and a water pipe as far as facilities wnt we had a fab time..... Were off this weekend and paying 12 pppn and while its not going to break the bank I'd love to find some more of the really cheap places cos I love a bargain..... IDeally the lakes or yorkshire or north wales and if anyone knows of super cheap ones in cornwall on the beach that'd cool.....

Where are your favourite bargain campsites?

We stayed in the Brecon Beacons last weekend and paid £5.75 for an adult and £3.75 per child.

Also, my nearest campsite where we stay fairly regularly charge a similar amount.

Both have really good facilities and the 2nd place has a fabulous visitor centre with cafe and yummy cake!

A couple of years ago we stayed in the Gower and paid £20 per pitch per night. There were 6 people in my tent so it was a great bargain - the site also had excellent facilities and a cafe.

MoaningMcMyrtlepants · 07/09/2011 00:26

Mogs, please can we have names for these campsites :)

We stayed at Roseville in Goonhavern which is near Perranporth in Cornwall. While not as cheap as the ones you've both mentioned at £25 per night for the pitch ( 5 of us in a trailer tent)With EHU, it was pretty reasonable. It also had an unheated swimming pool on site and a children's play area. They also operate a quiet after 10pm policy, which is brilliant.

A few weeks ago we stayed at Stoneleigh Park. It was in beautiful surroundings, facilities were basic but plenty of them and there was a lovely farm shop and teashop with yummy cakes. We paid £10 per night in total (2 kids, 2 adults) including electricity. Would have been £8 without.

We definitely intend to go back but I think timing is going to be quite important. We had the whole place practically to ourselves but the week before it had apparently been heaving with people camping for an off-road vehicle meeting. Don't think we'd have liked it much then.

This one is in the Brecon Beacons.

My local site

I've just realised that they charge more than I'd originally said but they're still pretty cheap - especially Cwmcarn, it's such an amazing spot! We're planning a stay in a pod next month Smile.

HattiFattner · 07/09/2011 21:57

this one is basic but great value - £12 pn for 2 adults 3 kids, cars and dog. Extra £3 for electric hook up. Close drive to beaches in Worthing and Littlehampton, very close to a fab PYO farm! nice walks around too, plus the fab castle in Arundel.

MoaningMcMyrtlepants · 07/09/2011 22:35

mogs The Brecon Beacon one looks good, would cost us £28.50 a night to stay there. The Forest one would be about £27 a night and I think my DC will love going there, so have put it on my list, thanks for the heads up on that.

Hatti that looks a fab little place too.

IloveJudgeJudy · 07/09/2011 23:04

Second Ecclesden Farm. Lovely site, facilities pretty basic, but OK and very laid-back owners.

Beamur · 07/09/2011 23:07

There's one we've been to in Pembrokeshire that is still only charging about £4 a night - the facilities are a bit basic - toilets and showers, but not much else, but the views are lovely. I can't remember the name but will post it after I've spoken to DP - he'll know.

Rhosson farm (not Rhosson Ganol) above the St Justinian?s lifeboat station SM 724 251 (car park owner by same people) ? this is possibly its Tel: (01437) 720335

Its a few years since we went, I think you had to pay extra for the showers and for freezing ice packs. Don't think they do hook ups.

YellowDinosaur · 10/09/2011 23:01

Wellhouse farm in Northumberland - 2 fields one for tents which was a bit rammed and contained a basic but clean service block, and one for tents that was much less busy and with beautiful views. £5 per adult and £3 per child over 5-6 - me and both boys paid only £5 for a night!

All good!

MrsMc82 · 11/09/2011 21:45

Ooo norththumberland sounds good....

I've just come back from a wet but very enjoyable weekend at high bridge end farm in thirlmere nr keswick. Lovely basic site in a beautiful spot. Clean showers (20p) and loos and just found on our way out this morning (doh!) A little room with a freezer, toaster, microwave and kettle plus an airer too, £4pppn with children free till they're 8! Will def be back, hope fully on a dryer weekend!

Shell Island in North Wales is brilliant, Its £7.25 per adult and £3.00 for kids.

TastyMuffins · 11/09/2011 23:02

Beaper Farm on the Isle of Wight between Sandown and Ryde:

www.beaperfarm.com/tarrifs.html

Basic site, good clean facilities, bus stop nearby so accessible without a car. Small camping store on site.

sweetlittletrollop · 04/08/2013 09:15

Hi have just bought a camper van. Have not camped for a few years. We used to go to CL sites via the caravan club and pay £2-5 a night for a pitch. These sites were usually part of a farm and only had perhaps 5 or so pitch's. Facilities were water and perhaps a shower. I cannot now find a directory of these sites.
I am looking for a book we can keep in the camper and tour round rather than trying to internet whilst camping.
I have tried looking on the camping and caravan website but their charges for one of these small sites seems to be in a price band of between £20-25 pounds a night for 2 adults and 2 children as they seems to charge per person rather than by the pitch.

Does any know of a book available or organisation that Farmers join to advertise their small sites please?

Wild camping in the Langdales, FOC. Kids love it.
Admittedly it's not for everyone.

MummyPigsFatTummy · 05/08/2013 07:45

Llanthony Priory near Abergavenny. Only a standpipe for water and public loos in the public car park. It was £3 per person when we went and I doubt it has changed. The best bit is the bar in the ruined priory (well in the litle hotel by it) and having a drink as the sun goes down in the shadow of the ruins and the Black Mountains. Bliss.

ViviPru · 05/08/2013 09:58

We've just come back from Brow Farm in Shropshire on the Welsh border. £5 per adult per night and under 5s and dogs were free. Basic but clean and functioning facilities in a beautiful, secluded meadow with a stream running through, no set pitches and a brilliant dog and kid friendly pub half a miles' footpath-walk away. BBQs and campfires allowed too. Brilliant!

MorningHasBroken · 05/08/2013 10:04

Berryfields in Porthcothan, Cornwall. £6 per tent plus £2 per person. Didn't charge us for the 1year old or the dog so £14 a night for a family of 5! Showers, water, sink, washing machines, freezer for ice packs. 3 mins from beach, 2 mins from pub with beautiful views.

CaveyLovesPendleton · 08/08/2013 14:17

Foxhills, Weybourne
Also Fulbeck Waters, between Sleaford and Newark

Quenelle · 09/08/2013 11:45

ViviPru Brow Farm looks gorgeous. It's going on my spreadsheet.

derektheladyhamster · 09/08/2013 11:47

Nethergong, in Canterbury charged us £10/tent 2 years ago. I had to check that it wasn't £10/person! It has now crept up to £20/night now though Sad

GeoHound · 11/08/2013 23:12

Just a brief reminder to folks going to Scotland that wild camping is perfectly accepted and FREE.

I do know of 2 sites on the west coast below Ullapool that are donations only. Don't want to post them online but will reply to pm if wanted.

ravenAK · 11/08/2013 23:17

Just back from Piel Island, in Cumbria.

£5 per tent per night, on a tiny island accessed by a tiny boat, with a ruined castle.

The pub food wasn't brilliant, tbh, but other than that - wow. Gorgeous place.
