We don't, we just grab some of the dc's battered old plastic plates and beakers from the back of the kitchen cupboard and shove a few forks in a plastic bag. My friend, on the other hand, has lovely vintage style melamine picnic plates and funky cutlery that stays in a special camping box where she can always find it. Envy

Have very pretty plates from tk max , beakers from ikea, cutlery from tescos and insulated mugs from yeomans.

Seperate everything here too. Like lovecat I have the Emma Bridgewater heart plates which I have mixed with Madeleleine Floyd Birdsong bowls and mugs which go surprisingly well in an odd unmatched way. Sorry on iPhone so can't do links but the birdsong range is beautiful!

lovecat · 10/08/2011 15:37

winefairy I had a nosey at the Birdsong pattern and I see what you mean, but I'm a bit phobic of birds, so that's out for me... I did make my own cutlery roll out of a blue flowery Cath Kidston-knock-off tea towel, though (to contain my separate set of camping cutlery that I got cheap from Matalan), so I do have some of that mismatched-but-strangely-matching thing going on :)

We have a kitchen store with all the camping melamine stuff and cutlery in a roll, all packed and ready for the next trip all season.

I have been eyeing some posh melamine linked to on this site some time ago but I have spent enough this year, it will have to wait.

Sinking, I think my plates were from Sainsburys, they're just white with blue stripes round the outside. I think the plastic wine glasses may match them. I don't mind drinking wine from plastic as long as it's clear plastic with a smooth texture - it doesn't stay in the drinking vessel long enough for the plastic to taint the wine. Wink

That IS the reason I got my enamel mug though, as I use a camping mug for a drink of water overnight and it tasted FOUL by the morning in a plastic mug. My mug was a bit of an indulgence but I really wanted a pretty one.

I have, this very day, bought new camping cutlery. 16 piece set for a tenner from Wilkos - could have paid £6, but this stuff was nicer. Could actually have paid £1.73 but I didn't trust it not to slice our tongues off (it WAS a bit rough around the edges). Also got a fabric offcut from Cath Kidston to hem up for a tablecloth to make the Tesco table-n-chair unit a bit less cheap-n-nasty.

That mug is a thing of beauty DontCallMeBaby Envy Would agree about too cheap cutlery - the spoons tend to slice the corners of your mouth

muchostinky · 10/08/2011 17:50

Oooohhh DontCallMeBaby don't show us links like that! The Folklore pattern one is lovely!

To answer the op though - I have a box that my camping stuff goes in for east transportation and separate cutlery. Am going to have to upgrade the cutlery I think though - eating from it is not my favourite thing! Lol

I got my dd a plate in £1 shop which is red melamine.

DontCallMeBaby · 10/08/2011 18:19

OMG, you're right - enamal teapot in lovely pattern! I didn't get my mug from there, just found that as an example. Must resist ... I love mugs though. One day I may just have an 'accident' with the mug cupboard and have to replace the whole lot with ones saying things like 'keep glam and rock on' and 'mother knows best'. Heh.

ReshapeWhileDamp · 10/08/2011 21:29

Only just started amassing kit really, but we have some Tesco melamine bowls (reduced to £1 each recently), set of four funky melamine beakers (ditto), three blue speckled enamel plates from pound shop, sporks from Tesco, and two dinky orange melamine mugs that are original 70's tut from DH's camping youth! Grin Wine from the beakers is fine by me, and they don't fall over as easily on the ground as a wine glass.

Not sure the car can accommodate two plastic storage boxes on top of the tent, chairs, sleeping etc. And I just bought a moon chair...

Sinkingfeeling · 10/08/2011 22:02

Oh, your mug is gorgeous, Dont. I wish you hadn't linked to that website. This is my mug by the way. Blush

I'm now thinking that I'm a camping slob and might have to turf useless crap essential household items out of our loft to make way for a camping box filled with beautiful melamine-y retro chic camping tableware and crockery. My friend will be amazed. Grin

We camp to save money so I'd feel hypocritical buying new nice stuff, though I would love to lol! I leave a set in the trailer which is our old stuff including the dc's plastic baby plates! However, I did treat dh and I to some posh plastic coloured wine glasses especially for camping - last year I had to drink out of plastic cups!
