I'm going camping...on my own with both dc's and two dogs.

Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I have a list of what I need but is there anything obscure, or actually really obvious I would need?

Dc's are 4 and 2

Check you can put the tent up on your own, and have a way to pen in the dogs/kids while you do it (e.g. tethers for dogs, travel cot/buggy for little ones).

Head torch is essential for nappy changes if your youngest is still in nappies.

Sun shade might be handy if there's no natural shade on your site.

Remember dog bowls - I forgot these last year and had to give my precious camping pans over to the purpose.

OneHundredPercentFucked · 05/08/2011 12:25

Ds is potty training so I'm hoping to only take enough nappies for 1 a night.

Dog bowls! Ah, I'd not put those on the list.

Thank you.

Have you packed yet? Grin

Gymbob · 07/08/2011 22:50

Portable toilet is my camping best buy. I absolutely love it. It is really basic, and I have to empty it each morning but after an evening on the pop it's a godsend in the night.

Are you having Electric Hook Up? We usually do, in which case don't forget a 2kw electric fan heater. We have just come back from a weeks hol, and the evenings were freezing - one night so cold we could see our breath.

The other thing I would recommend is a long handled dust pan and brush. Your tent will get very hairy and grassy and it will drive you mad.

Food wise, we take a curry pack with the spices already in, chuck in the chicken and tomatoes and serve with rice, and naan bread done under the grill. Spag bol is also an easy one. I sometimes take the sauce, ready made and frozen, it can defrost gradually in your cool box / fridge, so you then only have to cook the spaghetti and buy ready grated parmesan at the local shop Smile

OneHundredPercentFucked · 09/08/2011 00:19

No, no electric, I must be double mad. May try and change that when I ring tomorrow though!!

And no Shrek, not packed, haven't even got a quarter of my list.

Although, I did get a fold-able table and chairs from go outdoors for £20!

good stuff. That's a good start!

The car is packed, and we;re ready for the off in the morning. At least the same amount again is still in the hallway Grin
I'm supposed to be fitting three children in somewhere Hmm

Gymbob · 09/08/2011 10:40

Ha ha, that sounds like us! For our first camping trip we put the children in the car then packed around them. Good job it was only a 40 mile journey.

DS always says, we're not going camping, WE'RE MOVING HOUSE Angry

Gymbob · 09/08/2011 10:41

that was DH not DS Confused

OneHundredPercentFucked · 09/08/2011 11:34

Grin Gymbob!

Hope you managed to fit the kids in Shrek, have a great time and let me know how it was!!

MrsShrekTheThird · 09/08/2011 23:45

Lol @ gymbob

Well I'm in my tent mning on my phone (get me) it's sorta cold but the dc are loving it so far (i managed to fit them in , and all the bags , no idea how). The lovely sound of the river is making me want to wee, but apart from that it's greatGrin

Gymbob · 10/08/2011 11:24

Well get you MrsShrek Grin. I can never get anything on my phone unless there's any WIFI about. Think it must be just me.

Have a good time!

OneHundredPercentFucked · 10/08/2011 22:01

Finally got our tent!!! Got the 6 vis a vis one from tesco. Got two fold up chairs and two little ones for the dc's.

Still loads to get!!

OP posts:
OneHundredPercentFucked · 11/08/2011 19:33

Well, after reading the reviews I've taken it back!!!

Been and bought the Mojave 5 and it is up in the garden now. Took me, on my own, 20minutes to put it up. I love it!

OP posts:
MrsShrekTheThird · 12/08/2011 00:24

Grin at buying it then reading reviews. Good to hear you're sorted. Head for the nearest bargainous shop and stockpile fleecy blankets Wink
It's still not raining. Of course it hasn't been pissing it down since the moment we arrived.Hmm
did anyone mention you need good waterproofs?Wink

OneHundredPercentFucked · 12/08/2011 00:27

Oh waterproofs, you mean those things you are supposed to wear when camping to keep you from getting wet? Grin

We are going to Blue Dolphins Haven at Filey.

It's costing £174 for the week and that's included an unlimited entertainment pass, did not think it bad.

OP posts:
MrsShrekTheThird · 13/08/2011 23:47

Yep that's the one Grin
Of course you wont be needing them because it never rains in England - ESP on campsites. Wink

I had a ball. Unfortunately I had waaay more bother with the Parents than the dc. Parents came along with their caravan (last minute thing) ad it was a bit ..oh ffs Blush(they are in their late seventies) and I didn't need two extra badly behaved "children" Hmm tbh!!

KnickersOnOnesHead · 14/08/2011 17:46

Not blue dolphins apparently, its Withernsea sands Hmm

Oh I am so glad I don't have anyone to join last minute!!! Grin

Bought a trailer, we cannot get everything in. How do people go camping with so much shite to take? Confused

Gymbob · 14/08/2011 20:28

Ha Ha knickers, first of all we stuck the kids in and packed round them, but it was only for a trial first weekend away. Nowhere near enough room, so then we got a roof box, nowhere near enough room, so then we got a 3 x 4ft trailer, nearly enough room, so then we got side extensions for the trailer to make it a foot taller. Just enough room Grin

CocktailMumma · 14/08/2011 20:33

Camp every year on my own with the DC. Only managed 2 weeks this year but have done upto 5 weeks before.

Wipes - baby/anti bac are essential.
More clothes than you think you'll need.
Spare batteries and torches.

Loo for night times. If you cannot afford a porta potti type thing for this trip a bucket (with lid is even better but without is ok) will do. If you put some cat litter into the bottom on it, it absorbs the liquid so dont even have to worry about the kids knocking over a bucket of wee in the tent. Scoop out the cat litter with a nappy scak in the morning and bin. Give bucket a rinse and swish with some disenfectant.

MrsShrekTheThird · 15/08/2011 00:21

love it gymbob.
And so you're me old mate Knickers!!!! Now I see why we're having a good chit chat and a natter Grin If you haven't kept up and you're wondering who tf I am then inbox me Wink

KnickersOnOnesHead · 15/08/2011 11:48
Confused
KnickersOnOnesHead · 19/08/2011 16:15

We're home...4 days early. I could not hack it any more.

That site was a disgrace! Ruined it for me.

MrsShrekTheThird · 19/08/2011 18:44

awww :( that's sad.
Don't let a shitty site put you off but tell us all which one it is

luciadilammermoor · 19/08/2011 19:09

For nighttime weeing (without the whole portapotty etc), travel johns are your thing. They come in adult and junior sizes, small, easy to pack and dispose of, no spills, no worries.

Am off camping just me and dd1 (7), dd2 (4) and DS (18mths) in 10 days time... they were high on my list. www.amazon.co.uk/TravelJohn-Junior-Disposable-Urinal-Bag/dp/B000ZLPKKO/ref=pd_sim_d_4

KnickersOnOnesHead · 19/08/2011 19:12

oh thanks for that Lucia!

Shrek, I have no qualms in saying who they were. park resorts Withernsea Sands
