Any recommendations for pans to take camping?

I have a set of pans (just a set of cheapo kitchen pans!) that we take camping, but they are looking a bit worn after 10 years. Plus I think we need at least one larger pan as the DC now eat as much as us.

So is it worth getting propper stacking camping pans, or shall I just get another set of cheapies?

I take ood frying pan from home and cheap pans from supermarket.. friends had this set and I had pan envyGrin especially the large pot, am hoping ours fall apart so can justify more camping shopping!

that should be good frying pan!

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2011 09:42

Yes, 3rdn, that's what I do too!

Thanks for the link, that's the kind I was wondering about. Stackable. But the frying pan sides look very straight. Did it look quite heavy duty?

They were more sturdy than they look in the picture and they had had them a couple of years no chips in the non stick although my friends are quite careful about stuff, unlike dh who uses metal objects on my good non stick pan ... frying pan was straight but worked fine- not sure you could toss pancakes with detachable handle Grin

Toss pancakes Shock - it had never occurred to me to make pancakes when camping!

We just warm up the ready-made ones on the barbie and spread with nutella when in FranceWink

I have that Coleman set, 'tis fab I love it, very sturdy, but not too thick so heats up quickly, have had it a few years, no chips or scratches.

Is vair cheap and no postage from Amazon.

Get it, you know you want to Grin.

Is it really that good?

These are good pans if you don't mind channelling the Outwell family. Which I fear I am.

I did find them at a discount because they cost more than a small tent.

I took my kettle back last year because it was red not blue - I have been bold and ordered those red Coleman pans now - only to find someone does a set of blue pans. What to do .......

Oh just embrace the retro multicoloured look and get a crochet blanket to top it off. What colour is your tent then?

Batteryhuman · 24/05/2011 17:30

I take large saucepan from home for pasta, rice, soup etc and use the frying plate, and wok from my Cobb for everything else. I find camping sets far too small for 5 hungry people.

bigTillyMint · 24/05/2011 17:47

Wednesday, don't they swing about when you lift them up by the handle?

I'm not bothered about colour co-ordinating, infact a retro crochet blanket sounds quite cute!

Battery you haven't encountered the coleman set then, it's gimoungous, we made stew for 6 adults and 3 children in the big pot last year.

notwaving retro multicoloured is good, it makes you look seasoned all shiney and matching not good.

I don't think they swing about, haven't used since last summer. I've got a spare grippy handle that I can use to pick them up for serving up/pouring out. (for that price you'd expect it to be included!) They are nice and big is the main thing although not as big as the Coleman ones. I wanted a few big pans rather than an irritating set of too many small ones.
