Rechargeable lanterns - recommend yours?

That's it really... we need a lantern that charges from the mains or a car cig lighter socket and is pretty sturdy. And not too £££ but would go to around £30 if it would last a long while. Anyone found a good one?

We had an Outwell Jupiter last year and I would strongly recommend you AVOID it! We used it for 1 night in the garden, 2 nights in the New Forest and then took it to Burgundy for 2 weeks. By the middle of those 2 weeks it seemed as though the battery was dying and by the end it was spending most of its life plugged in in the hope it would see us through the evening. Oh - and we also had to replace one of the tubes in that time. I don't know if we just got a dud one, but its put us off rechargeable lanterns a bit.

We took it back and got an Energizer 100 Hour LED Lantern instead. Less eco-friendly, but gives a much better light. so far its been played with, and done duty one night when we had a powercut, but that's been about it - so can't comment on how long the batteries will last.

(Just been camping with a friend who had 2 wind up LED lanterns - they were both relatively new, but both had bits that had broken off easily and they both needed frequent winding to stay alight. To be fair, they did both stay illuminated - but it was a lot more effort than I'd be up for of an evening!)

Thanks, Tangle. The reviews are so mixed and your experiences are backing up what I've heard.
