Riverside picnic, swim before lunch, then nice warm burgers and kebabs. Brilliant.

the only thing preventing the attainment of perfect felicity was that the tea was from a flask instead of Kelly Kettle.

Lucky you!

How long did it take to cook the burgers/kebabs (start to finish ie lighting it to eating)?

SybilBeddows · 03/05/2011 09:07

I used a Cobblestone so it was ready to cook on less than 5 mins after lighting, but then we messed around a bit and then discovered the meat was still a bit frozen so the total time was an hour, but it should have been half that.

Thanks. Still umming and ahhing about getting one for our camping trip this summer - we are going to the Vendée for 10 days, plus possibly a few extra nights near St Malo, so I think a cobb would give us more scope for cooking.

On the other hand, the point of going camping (amongst other reasons) was to do less of the everyday cooking/cleaning etc!

well you can either use it to recreate the sort of meals you would have at home, and I see why you would not want to do that, or just treat it as an extremely nice and well-designed barbie.

my main reason for getting it was actually simply that I hate the stink of disposable barbecues - I have had several lovely trips to the beach or country picnics ruined by people who set theirs up just upwind from me. If you use the cobblestones it just smokes for the first 5 mins (non-stinkily) then you pop the lid on and it hardly smokes at all. But actually it does seem like a much easier way to cook than a normal barbie, as you can cook more slowly and evenly with the lid on, and I like the fact that it's safer and doesn't burn the grass/table.

it is obviously more of a faff to clean than having a disposable one, which doesn't matter at home as it goes in the dishwasher, but if you don't have another family member you can deputize the cleaning to then that would be an issue.

That sounds good. DH wants to take our v. old small fold-up bbq but I like the cool wall aspect of the Cobb, plus the food is less flame-grilled which we both prefer.

Think I will go for it, especially as we are not buying a tent, but borrowing one, I reckon I can justify the expense that way!!!

Smile

My dh objected to the price at first but now he agrees it is a lovely toy bit of kit.
It was good a couple of months ago when we had a powercut, too.
