Has anyone got any campsite recommendations for the West Coast of Ireland?

Hi

We camped over there for a few weeks maaany moons ago when ds1 was 18 months old (he is now 9) and loved it so much that we said we were definitely going back the next year, but something seemed to get in the way every summer after that and here we are 7 1/2 years later, having still never managed to get back there, but seriously planning to do it this year.

We now have 3 dcs aged 2, 7 and 9 plus two dogs and will be going in our tatty but loveable vw camper and dragging along the awning.

Ideally, we'd like something not very commercial, just basic (but clean Wink) toilet and shower facilities would be fine and definitely as near as possible to a sandy beach. We like quiet sites, preferably where we can have a campfire and aren't fussed about having many facilites on site.

We have seen one that we are seriously tempted by and have emailed for availability, but I'm fairly sure that its going to be booked up already.

Last time we covered Cork, Kerry and Dingle and although we loved it, this time we would love to go a bit further up - perhaps Galway/Connemara?

Does anyone know of any campsites that might fit the bill?

All advice and recommendations gratefully received. Smile

Shameless bump - has no-one else been camping on the West Coast of Ireland? I can highly recommend it - its a long drive, but well worth it.

Haven't camped there but have been past both these camp sites here. The beach at lettergesh is amazing and the sea is calm although there are often jellyfish on the sand. The beach at Renvyle is also lovely but the sea is a bit choppier.

Thank you LadyCornyofSilk. I shall go and have a look at their websites right now. Smile

We're used to Jellyfish - get loads of them at Ballinesker and Curracloe in Wexford. (Family live there so I've pretty much been there every year for the past 37 years.)

We camped on the Dingle peninsula a few years ago, one site was up above Dingle bay itself, and the other was near an ancient monument (can't remember the name) but it was fab. Would also recommend that part of the work to anyone, we had such an amazing time.
