what I really want to do is erect my tent in a deserted field with a little stream and nothing else but as I can't do that can you recommend a lovely small rural campsite in Devon or Cornwall. The kund if place you find at the end of a track.

TIA

We stayed at one up a hill just outside boscastle, after the floods (we'd had to find it sharpish after we arrived and found the one we booked under 6" of water)- it was gorgeous, but v v basic.
Will post link later when not on phone.

We stay here every year, worth a look here, gorgeous location, lovely part of Devon:)

Okay... it is this one here- Ivy Leaf- it is right up on top of a hill, and you can see for miles, it's very very quiet and basic- please read the reviews!

It was fine for me and DH, but that was pre-DC, and we only stayed 2 nights and didn't use the shower. Smile

Bude is very close- 5 mins in car to seashore.

No idea how old your children are...

Thank you everyone. Both those sites look great. Our girls are small, 4 and 2, but I think that works well with basic facilities. They can use a potty if necessary and I can wash them in a bucket! I guess the only worry is if there are cliff drops within wandering distance from the tent.

We stayed here and it was lovely. You can't book though, it's first come first served.

Berry - I love Treen Farm! Went there many a time before DCs. My idea of heaven. Sadly the no booking policy makes it impossible now. I can't drive down from London, for 7 hours, with kids, and then be turned away from my destination. So sad. I wish they would change their booking policy!

Oh that's a shame, we loved it too, but have the advantage of living relatively close by. It was more of a try out camping with the option of dashing home if it all gets a bit much sort of thing.

Is this a bit too much for you? It's quite basic but there is a small swimming pool. - You could park in the furthest field away from everything!

Little Meadow is lovely but gets booked up fast. The views are stunning and it is heaven for kids

if you didn't mind Dorset there's a beautiful Certificated Location ( Camping and Caravanning Club ) site just above St Gabriels on the Golden Cap estate, which is owned by the National Trust. No facilities at all, so you need a port-potti. Beautiful walks, including one to the beach, which can only be reached by foot, and also up to the Golden Cap - amazing views.
