Do you have a separate tent for weekend camping?

Following on from the 'massive tent' thread, I'm just wondering if you regular campers have more than 1 tent for different purposes.

We have a 5m bell tent, which I adore, but if we go away anywhere that's wet (which let's face it, by the law of averages is more than likely to be the case!), we then have the issue of having to dry the canvas, which could take all week/an entire room of the house!

I'm new to camping as a weekend leisure thing, but very keen on the idea, just wondering how you all manage it (and if I can slip the purchase of another tent past DH - I LOVE this: www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/acatalog/Gelert_Cabana_4_Festival_Tent_Mars_Red.html

Try again with the link, as the 'auto' thing didn't convert it:

I have about 8 tents.

One big family tent for camping for a week or so.
2 small tunnel tents for one night camping
A medium sized tent for if me and DD go away without DH.
A quercha pop up tent for weekend camping/awning for the campervan
a small backpacking tent
a garden tent for DD to play in (but its a proper tent)

How many of you are there? Friends of mine had a pop-up tent from Decathlon. I kid you not it was up in about 2 mins, then they just had to peg it down and down in about 5 mins. It was great. It had a living area in the middle and bedrooms either side. Can't remember the name, though.

We are planning to get a weekend tent this year.

I think it will be one of these

It's alot smaller than our current tent, hopefully easier an quicker to put up but still has steel poles so better in bad weather.

We have
Outwell Sun Valley 6 for longer trips and to sleep all 5 of us
4 man (comfortable for 3) dome tent for festivals with an extended porch for all the clobber
2man popup for teenage boy pup tent and garden use when we have people staying
a couple of spare smaller tents in the roof from years past.........hoarding

and a pop up dog kennel which has been used as a travel cot!

I have www.terra-nova.co.uk/Product_Type/Tents/Superlite_Tents/Laser_Competition_1_Tent.html for when I'm wild camping/ by myself / going away with work

We have a big family tent for the weeks away.

Wiggletastic · 15/04/2011 18:41

We have mahoosive 6 person tent for long trips which takes about an hour and two people to pitch and then we also have a pop-up Quechua 4.2 from Decathlon for weekends which goes up in 5 mins and I can do it on my own. Both great tents and ideal for different types of camping.

greenlotus · 17/04/2011 17:26

Yes but by default

Started with a 4-person dome tent we were given

Then upgraded to huuge Outwell and all the stuff, tables chairs etc

After a couple of trips can't be bothered packing the big rig for weekends so we're glad we kept the smaller one. It's not great in bad weather though because you go stir crazy inside it with no windows.

Ineedalife · 17/04/2011 19:15

Yep, we have our large family tent which takes about an hour to put up, so we don't take it for less than 4 nights ish.

A family pop up from decathlon which is up and pegged in about 15 minutes and 2 smaller outwell pop ups for single nights/pup tents/garden camping.

JemimaMop · 17/04/2011 21:19

Yes, we have a small 4 man basic tent from Halfords which we bought to see if we enjoyed camping. It is really easy to put up, so if we are only staying one night we take that. However it is a bit of a squeeze with 3 DC and you can't stand up in it.

For trips of 2 nights or more we have a Gelert Horizon 6 with a porch, which is palacial in comparison but is far harder to put up.

Viva I like your style Grin

OP we have a mahoosive outwell tunnel tent for week plus camping and this for weekends/festivals. we got it for a cheaper price though - it was on offer at the time. with the virginia though it's fine if you don't mind effectively being in the same bedroom as DCs - as there is just a curtain between the two sides of the bedroom rather than 2 different sleep pods IYKWIM.

have you looked at the reviews on UK campsite to get an idea of what you want?

We have a kampa frinton 4 for weekendS which goes up, pegged and filled with bedding etc in 45 mins. The steel poles mean that it can cope with all weathers although it feel fairly small compared to our longstay tent (outwell florida 6)

Also have a quechua 2seconds xxl pop up for when just doing a couple of nights with dc's when dh is working or for just dh & I when dc's go to grandparents.

Slubberdegullion · 25/04/2011 18:00

Yes. We have two Outwell pop ups for weekend camping. The novelty and sheer pitching delight of pulling a tent out of a bag and banging in some pegs has yet to wear off.
The tarp and tarp poles live in the car all year round under the spare wheel (just in case I need to make an emergency red cross shelter on the way back from Sainsbury's some day Hmm) so we can have that up in a couple of minutes to cook and eat under if the weather turns inclement.

We do many more weekend camps now, as like you Lovecat cannot bear the faff of drying a canvas tent indoors should it rain.

bigTillyMint · 25/04/2011 18:28

We have a 3man pop-up as well as our 8man summer tent, but since it only really sleeps 2 and there are 4 of us, it's not really an optionGrin

LittleSkink · 25/04/2011 19:07

we have Hypercamp Eldorado as our main weekender - having kids mean we only use Canvas (so much better than plastic fabrics for lots of reasons) and this is an absolute bargain at about £150 delivered to UK. Can be up in minutes and cope with any weather the UK can throw at it - if more people tried this tent they would not be many smaller Outwells and Outwell clones on our campsites!

also got Cabanon Isabelle Canvas ridge tent that is great when I go away with my eldest (6). Not much useable space really (and weighty) but great for 2
