What do you sleep on? What do your dc sleep on? How do you keep warm?

Planning our first ever camping trip.

I am thinking of taking the double airbed for dh and I and buying a double sleeping bag, along with our winter duvet.

DD1 is 3, I have a fat aric which I purchased ages ago but never used, I was thinkining of putting her in there with a sleeping bag tied off with string. What sort of sleeping bag is the best for warmth?

DD2 will be 9 months - I was thinking of taking her warmest gro bag, fleecy sleepsuits - but not sure what else? Shes normally sleeps in her cot, would she be warm enough in a travel cot?

All suggestions appreciated Smile

It will be August btw.

I'd put a warm blanket on top of your airbed - pref a fleecy one to insulate you a bit and then your sleeping bag on top of that - the air in the bed will be cold.

Our DS was 3 when we first went. It was a really cold night in early May. I put him on a wee airic (DH and I have slim airics), with a 3-season sleeping bag tied with string, put a woolly hat on him, thermal undies, tights, tracksuit bottoms, a cashmere jumper and big sweatshirt. I woke in the morning to find him lying in the corner of the tent, miles from his sleeping bag and mat, having stripped himself to his undies and fallen asleep in the corner on the groundsheet... Think I might have overdone it :)

Hopefully in August you won't need to go to such extremes anyway - you might even be... too warm! It does happen, even in a tent Wink

I think a travel cot would be great - both for sleeping and as a safe place to put her when you need to be sure of where she is. I'd put a little hat on her too, and possibly mittens if its chilly. Warm her cot mattress with a hot water bottle, then remove the bottle before putting her down - same with your DD's bed, and you can move the hot water bottles to your bed then to keep your toes toasty!

Thanks Becstarsky Smile Really good advice, hadn't even thought about using a hot water bottle!
