Anyone done 'Eurocamp' before?

We want to go to Brittany at the end of May. It will be DS's first holiday (he will be almost 2). We were going to use the posh tents but might go for the static caravans instead.

Just wondered if anyone had any dodgy or brilliant experiences to share. We fancy Pointe St Gilles in West Brittany.

I've been with Canvas and Siblu a number of times in France and Italy, the first time when dd was 2. I second getting a deck. Depending on the site, sometimes the alternative is a patch of dust next to the car. We always have a great time - these places tend to be set up for kids.

And always get the biggest/best spec you can afford. The basic mobiles are fine, but I think it is always better to upgrade if you can in terms of fittings and space.

agree biggest is best. if possible don't do may half term as that will be much busier - you may get a special deal for other periods. not been to that site, but been to around 6 others in brittany - so happy to share with you if you like?

We've done Eurocamp (but not in Brittany) lots of times and also moved on to booking campsites direct -- most have a website and will take an online booking and most will have a range of mobile homes you can hire. Costs are lower and you have access to all same facilities, plus most French campsites will have an 'animateur' or kids club to arrange activities for little ones.

Good place to look for reviews/advice is Alan Rogers www.alanrogers.com/. I've found their descriptions to be pretty accurate over the years (leaving out the fascination with naturist sites!)

I have done eurocamp as a kid with my parent. I now book direct with the site and do our ferry or flights always works out cheaper.

brilliant thanks everyone - we plan to go the week before half term - but have just remembered DS needs a passport! so frantically trying to sort one out sharpish then we can book.

and yes we are def going for the mobile homes (with decking!)

Hi, We did eurocamp 2 years ago with ds then 1 and dd then 2 1/2. We went to Camping de la Baie in La Trinite sur Mer near Carnac. We liked it so much that we have been back every year since. With our own tent though. The pros were that you didn't need to take any kit, you have good beds, a really good fridge with freezer compartment and good cooking facilities. And you don't have to put it all up yourself! We did think though that there, the eurocamp tent pitches weren't the best ones and just that it would be much nicer with all our own gear.

They did have statics at that site for both Eurocamp and Keycamp. They looked fine, I didn't get to look inside though so can't comment much on those.

Hope this helps. Can't wait for the beginning of july when we head back there!

Hi, I used to Eurocamp / Canvas Holiday as a child and last year took the DCs for the first time to Brittany and Normandy. They were 4 and 2 and it was the best holiday ever! We're going again this year, to Brittany and Normany again but different sites. Millypip we were at de la Baie last year and absolutely loved it, a bit nervous about choosing different sites this year as it may not live up to last year's experience!

We stayed in a tent and choosing a tent again this year. But in May I agree, you'd want a mobile home.

We camped in a eurocamp in the first week of June with a 6mth old and he was fine, I think it was about 15C at night, it was in Burgundy. We only did a 2 night stop over though as we were going further south where it was boiling.

I loved the tents, they had everything you'd need and had lovely beds.

We've stayed in mobile homes with Eurocamp in the past but have recently booked with a company called Europarcs. They have the same mobile homes as Eurocamp but offer far better value for money and have good customer service :)

Tillyscoutsmum · 11/04/2011 21:37

We have just booked Pointe St Gillies for the summer

Been with Eurocamp for the past 11 years. Took my youngest DS when he was 4 months in a classic tent, he was fine. My boys love them and we have been to quite a few sites. We are in Benodet this year in June.
