Going group camping and wanted a gazebo so we can all eat togther under if it rains. Wanted a waterproof one and a bit stronger and longer lasting than the cheap white ones from argos (we had one that only lasted 5 mins)! seen a coleman event shelter but only shower proof, recommendations please!!

I think a lot of campsites don't allow gazebos as they're quite dangerous if the wind gets up. You can get all sorts of tarps which you could join together to make a shelter (see Decathlon, Vango...) or you could get a dayroom where the sides roll up completely.

I've been doing some research and am ditching our big heavy pop-up gazebo for a khyam day shelter. HTH....

Our friends have a tarp, which works well.

Coleman event shelters are no good for the serious camper, they are only good for very light rain ,
On a campsite in Spain this summer I saw a rain storm with a bit of wind destroy five of them all within fifty metres of me.
Luckily I had not put mine up by then.
Bad points they do not reflect the heat, they are like sitting in a pressure cooker the temperature was 8 degrees C. Higher under the Coleman than that sitting under a tree..
The roof vent system does not work either, they remain shut.
Good points they look good, it's a bit of kit for yuppies with all the gear and not idea.
Mine is on eBay as we speak.

Check with site if you're allowed one first of all...I have an Ozark Trail Gazebo which has withstood some heavy downpours and a fair few Scottish gales lol

Zombie!

This was 2 years ago. Pretty sure OP would have sorted it by now.

Mum2Fergus · 09/08/2013 16:58

Lol how does that happen?!

Kyham day tent worked well for us, waterproof but able to open up sides for more open feel when weather is good!

MummyPigsFatTummy · 09/08/2013 19:37

Funny, isn't it. We and friends all have Coleman event shelters and they have withstood really heavy downpours no trouble, albeit in this country. Mixed reviews on wind admittedly but only because people tend not to attach all the guys. Once properly secured, we have had no problems.
