How to replace a split tent pole section?

Hoping someone can advise me here. We have an Outwell Hartford XL. Last time we used it, when we took it down we found one of the sections of pole had split. There is a spare one with the tent, but I have no idea how to replace it, presumably you have to unthread them all from one end? I am worried that if I disconnect the elastic I will never get it fastened on to the end pole section properly again? Has this happened to anyone else?

It hasn't happened to us, but a friend said he had to thread the elastic through (using a poker that he fashioned from a bit of wire).

Reminds me that I must order some replacement stuff incase there's a split this summer!

dh can do this easily enough.
have asked him.
he says: use a peg to hold the elastic tense inside the other poles while you put the last one on, to give you a good long length to work with.

btw have you had your Outwell long? we got a Hartford XL at the end of last season, just used it once, can't wait to use it again!

Thank you both, am going to try and have a go during the week. We're not planning to camp in it till next half term so got a while to get it sorted, but it has been on the things to do list since last summer.

We've had the tent for 3 years (I think), used it about twice each year so far. It is pretty big, we have a smaller one for weekends.

I have added Duck tape to my camping packing list in case any more poles split!

We thoiught about a DIY repair on a bent pole, but then took whole pole to the local camping shop, bought a repair kit for a few quid, paid an extra £10 and collected the perfect repair the next day Grin

(We survived the weekend with duct tape though when it actually broke)
