We can book any two nights of the week as we are both on leave, which two nights would you book?

It will be our first camping trip ever, dd1 will be 3 and dd2 will be 8 months. All advice greatly appreciated esp re. what the dc could sleep on and what sort of stove we should get. Smile

Do you mean Hollands Wood in the New Forest? If so, I spent many v happy childhood hols there- it was lovely.

I'd go midweek as it'll be less crowded- maybe Monday/Tuesday.

I went to Hollands Wood a few years ago and would recommend going midweek rather than over a weekend as it does get busy at weekends (although it's still a lovely site and not too packed in).

If you do pitch up at a busier time be aware that they sometimes close the furthest toilet block (towards the back of the site) when it gets quieter again, so you can find yourself not as near the toilets as you thought you'd be.

Sorry, yes in the new forest.

I'll think I'll book Mon & Tues then.

Can I ask what you did baggedandtagged that made your holidays so lovely, trying to create the same memories for my dd's Smile

Just the ponies everywhere, and the site itself is lovely and spacious so we just used to ride our bikes around and there were always lots of other children to play with.

Thanks bagged, must remember to take dd1's bike Smile

If the ponies get too near, wave a carrier bag at them and it seems to scare them off!

Is a lovely site indeed, must get back there. Can get a bit busy but would recommend. Little stream on edge of site is kiddy heaven, boys still have happy memories a good few years on. Otter sanctuary well worth a visit.

Ds loved it there-we camped at the far end, right next to the boundary and it was fab. I hope you enjoy it just as much :)

Two tips I can think of.

Don't camp near the road if you can help it. A few years ago we camped there and the local boy racers enjoyed driving past horns blaring. It might not be a problem any more.

Second tip is ,when coming, don't go down from junction 1 of the M27 to Lyndhurst, the traffic is awful on an evening (or all day Monday, Friday and weekends) Go junction 3 (assuming you are coming that way) and through Ashurst. I work in Lyndhurst and if I'm not at the office by 9 in the summer I always go that way.
